Mind of Mike -- Best fit for Addison and more

Mind of Mike - Jordan Addison

Mind of Mike - Jordan Addison

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image source="featured_image" img_size="large"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Mind of Mike is a scary place. Here are my latest thoughts on Jordan Addison and many other topics...

-- My first choice for WR Jordan Addison? It's Pitt where he knows the head coach, the support staff and where he would cement his legacy as one of the amazing Panthers in history with names like Dan Marino, Larry Fitzgerald, Tony Dorsett, Curtis Martin, Aaron Donald, Hugh Green and so many more. Yes, he should stay at Pitt and end his career as a legend. He'd still be a first-rounder and make all the money he wants in the NFL. But we know that's not going to happen. According to my sources, Addison isn't enamored with the new offense and misses the coaches who have left that pushed him to be great. So with that in mind, what is the next best fit? Here's my order...

  1. Texas -- His WR coach, Brennan Marion, is at Texas and Addison has publicly raved about him and how he's helped his development. Texas is a big program with great NIL opportunities and he'd be unstoppable along with Xavier Worthy even with a new QB being broken in.
  2. USC -- Caleb Williams is a friend and clearly a great, young QB and he's known Calen and his dad Carl for a long time. Lincoln Riley is a great offensive coach and LA is LA for NIL.
  3. Alabama -- Let's put NIL aside and relationships and assume he just wants to win. Nick Saban wins. Bryce Young is amazing and neither Texas or USC will come close to the Alabama success.
  4. Nebraska -- By all accounts, Addison was closer to Marion than he was to Mark Whipple but he loved the way Whipple developed Kenny Pickett and pushed the ball downfield. Casey Thompson has a chance to be very good and Whipple would make Addison a 100-catch receiver in Nebraska.

-- Here's an odd thought -- what teams have put themselves in the riskiest situation at QB because of the portal. To me, it's USC, Oklahoma, Texas, and LSU but I must be missing someone right? USC has Caleb Williams, but zero experience behind him while three, count them, three QBs from USC are set to start at Power Five schools. Oklahoma has Dillon Gabriel but lost Spencer Rattler and Caleb Williams and that's scary as heck. Texas is all in on Quinn Ewers and lost Casey Thompson while LSU downgraded in my opinion with Jayden Daniels and lost Max Johnson. Who am I missing?

-- Two teams that have been poached badly in the portal are Maryland and Arizona State and it makes you wonder if they could have won more with the roster talent. When you see teams clamoring for players like DL Darrell Jackson, LB Demeioun Robinson, LB Branded Jennings and others you wonder what the defense would look like next season with these guys still on board. And at Arizona State, losses like WR Ricky Pearsall, QB Jayden Daniels, LB Eric Gentry, DT Jermayne Lole and others make you wonder if NCAA infractions are coming.

-- I haven't done my 2023 player rankings or team rankings as of yet but I will by the start of the football season. I can tell you right now, these teams stand out to me...

  1.  Notre Dame
  2. Georgia
  3. Ohio State
  4. Penn State
  5.  USC
  6. Tennessee
  7.  Alabama
  8. Clemson
  9. Texas Tech
  10. Arkansas

As for players, I currently have 20 players in my five-star range with some very obvious (QB Arch Manning) and others off the current radar of others (DT Jamaal Jarrett). Stay tuned.

-- Finally, for this one anyhow, the top four in my WR rankings for next year's NFL Draft honestly blow away the top four for the 2022 Draft. That's not to slight Drake London, Garrett Wilson, or others, but this upcoming year at WR is ridiculous and these are the clear four...

  1. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ohio State
  2. Jordan Addison, stay tuned
  3. Kayshon Boutte, LSU
  4. Quentin Johnson, TCU

And if only Xavier Worthy were draft eligible. I have him as my No. 4 overall guy and it's a toss-up between him and Boutte.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
