Mind of Mike: I Just Can’t

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Mind of Mike is a scary place. With the Brent Venables statement, I just can’t with Cale Gundy.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]I hate cancel culture. I can’t stand lives being ruined from a mistake. And of course I hate racism as well. So when I first thought Oklahoma assistant coach Cale Gundy blurted out a racial slur once, just once, in a heated moment reading from a player’s IPad I didn’t think his career should be ruined. And with players and other coaches coming to his defense my thinking was discipline and not ruination.

But I also hate stupid. I loathe it. Not lack of book smart stupid but common sense stupid. It’s the bane of my existence. So when OU head coach Brent Venables came out with a statement that said Gundy “chose to read aloud to his players not once, but multiple times, a racially charged word” I just can’t strive for forgiveness. I’m not in favor of ruination either as everyone makes mistakes, but in the world we live in to read the word aloud over and over again the stupid as well as the insensitive meters go off the charts. You can’t do that — anywhere. It’s common sense and it’s something no one on this planet should claim ignorance on. Ever.

I am continually disappointed in the stupidity of the world on a daily basis and this is just another example. I don’t care how good you are at Xs and Os and player relations and recruiting, dumb is dumb. There’s no place in college football for this level of stupidity. And there really is no argument. Once blurted out while reading maybe — maybe. And that’s only if you don’t pay attention to what you’re reading. But c’mon man. Repeatedly? You gotta go.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
