Mind Of Mike: The Pissed Off Edition

The Mind of Mike is an interesting place. Add in some anger and you have Pissed Off Mike. Here’s what’s pissing me off lately.

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]Caleb Williams’ father told the LA Times that the reaction of the Oklahoma Sooners fans was part of the reason his son left for USC. C’mon now. Lincoln Riley left, Caleb committed to the former OU head coach and wanted to be developed under him. So to say the fans, and the fact that OU took QB transfer Dillon Gabriel right after Williams entered the transfer portal, pisses me off. It’s Caleb’s choice where he plays, no one can question that. And I wish him well at USC. He’s important to college football and the survival of the PAC-12. But let’s leave the fans out of this and let’s not blame OU for finding a replacement when they had zero guarantees he’d be back. Jheeeesh.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]I said last week that if Arch Manning’s film was evaluated as Arch Smith he’d be a high three-star to some. I have him as a four-star and the last name impacts that and he’s clearly not the No. 1 player in the country based on his film and resume. So what pisses me off? The responses of fans thinking I hate Texas or hate the kid. In this day and age, anything said against a recruit is against the school he has picked which I find hilarious more than ever with the portal so utilized. And hate the kid? I don’t know him a bit. It’s an opinion based on 25 years of scouting and knowing how this industry works. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong, but he better have a Trevor Lawrence-like career with a natty and a No. 1 overall selection to do so. Oh, that’s right, Lawrence never won the Heisman so to some morons he was overrated. Manning has talent but let’s be real. You know he threw 5 scores against a Cohen team in 2020 that dressed 14 players and hadn’t scored a point in six straight games? This is the kind of competition he plays and when he does step up in competition he can look very un-5-star like.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]Finally, I had Kyle Flood on the coordinator hot seat last week and got buried by Texas fans. Again I hate Texas, right? Nope. And I like Flood, always have. But if anyone thinks another 5-7 season with weapons like Xavier Worthy, Bijan Robinson, and Quinn Ewers will be accepted at Texas then they are insane. Steve Sarkisian was under first last year in season one and the offensive line is the key to this season on that side of the ball, the position Flood specializes in. If we don’t see a 7-5 season at least then Sark will be forced to make coaching changes and Flood will come under fire. It’s not rocket science people. A lack of understanding of this pissed me off.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
