Bill Belichick shocked the world with the announcement that he is moving to coach college football. Now Tom Brady, his longtime quarterback is giving his thoughts on the move.
When it comes to Belichick, no introduction is needed. His resume speaks for itself, and he received high praise from another great. The NFL legend and greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady, recently commented on Belichick taking over in North Carolina.

“They’re gonna get a tremendous coach. Being in that locker room for as many years as I did, those guys are going to play very hard. He’s going to coach them well. It’s a great benefit for all those players that are going to that program, because they’re getting the best coach that this NFL has ever seen, now it’s at a college level.”
Regardless of whether you believe this is a good decision or if you think he is seeking the NFL’s attention, the Tar Heels have made a significant coaching hire.

Bill Belichick’s background goes beyond his NFL coaching experience and success with the Patriots. He also brings valuable expertise in navigating the business side of the NFL, which shares many similarities with modern college football, particularly with the advent of name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals and the transfer portal.
One of the most significant contributions he offers is his deep understanding of the complex strategies used at the NFL level. He is known for maximizing player performance and devising schemes that put his players in the best position to make plays. His strong defensive strategy effectively confuses opponents and slows down their offenses.
He’s already bringing in players as four-star quarterback, and one of the top players in North Carolina, Quarterback Bryce Baker, reaffirmed his commitment to North Carolina.
Former Holy Cross offensive lineman Christo Kelly became Belichick’s first transfer portal commitment in North Carolina. While Holy Cross is not a big-time program, this will be an excellent opportunity for Belichick to show that he can get the best out of college talent.
There is also Bill’s personality that people did not see in his 20+ years with the Patriots. During that time, his serious, monotone post-game conferences became memes in New England.
However, since being let go by New England, Belichick has made the rounds from the Pat McAfee show to Inside The NFL to the Monday Night Football Manning Cast. He was also on College Gameday last year for the Army-Navy game.
That exposure showed Belichick’s entertaining side. It showed that he does have a personality, and when breaking down game films, he demonstrates knowledge and expertise that nobody has shown on TV.
He is taking over a North Carolina team that finished the 2024 season at 6-6. Whether the Belichick brand will lure recruits and bring success to his newfound career in college remains to be seen.
Either way, there will be excitement in Chapel Hill, and it doesn’t hurt that he coached the greatest quarterback of all time and just received his recommendation.
Even with the changes to modern-day college football, the college game is still different from the NFL, but with Bill Belichick, nothing is unachievable in football. He also has hardware that no one else in the college game has: eight Super Bowl rings with the Patriots and Giants.
Not to mention, how cool would it be to walk into a meeting and have Tom Brady speak to the team?
