As we head towards the start of preseason camps, the list of players getting arrested continues to grow. New to the list are three players from East Carolina, who were arrested a few days ago after they shot guns within Greenville, North Carolina city limits.
According to a report by WITN, the three arrested were defensive lineman J.D. Lampley, defensive lineman Preston Carr and wide receiver Brock Spalding. Lampley and Carr were charged with discharging a firearm within city limits while Spalding was charged with discharging a firearm within city limits, and resist, delay, and obstruct a public officer. Spalding’s additional charges were filed after he initially refused to exit the home that the three were located.
WITN did obtain a statement from East Carolina regarding the arrests.
“ECU Athletics is aware of the arrests of three members of our football team, and we are continuing to gather information. All three individuals have been suspended indefinitely from all team activities.”
Lampley has totaled 55 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and six sacks during his three seasons, Spalding has nine receptions for 101 yards in three season, while Carr is a walk-on who played his first two games during the 2024 season.
While it is good for players to relax at home prior to the start of their summer camp, college coaches are always extremely nervous about losing contact during this time. This is when players tend to make bad decisions, which once again has been proven in Greenville.
