The skinny: The college football off-season was highlighted by Colorado. More recently the news was about their move back to the Big 12, but the cycle started in early December when new head coach Deion Sanders began to gut the roster. All eyes will be on Boulder this season to see how this unprecedented roster turnover will turn out.

The skinny: The first real surprise on this list, considering the Ducks finished the 2022 season at 10-3 and weren’t at any risk of undergoing a head coaching change. While the number is high, most of the exiting players weren’t major contributors on the field.
Cal – 29
Notable Losses: QB Jack Plummer – Louisville, WR J. Michael Sturdivant – UCLA, OL Spencer Lovell – Kansas
The skinny: For a school considered one of the top academic programs in the country, a high transfer number is surprising. However, head coach Justin Wilcox is on a short leash, which will always create a tricky situation with the portal.
Texas A&M – 28
Notable Losses: DB Denver Harris – LSU, DB Smoke Bouie – Georgia, DL Anthony Lucas – USC, DB Marquis Groves-Killebrew – Louisville, RB LJ Johnson – SMU, DL Tunmise Adeleye – Michigan State
The skinny: Considering how abysmal the 2022 season went for the Aggies, seeing “only” 28 players enter the portal could be seen as win. Also, Texas A&M was able to hold onto most of the promising young players on their roster.

The skinny: After seeing 21 players enter during the 2021/2022 cycle, the Razorbacks saw an increase during this cycle. 27 is a substantial number and something that they don’t want to see become a trend in the upcoming cycles.
Miami-Florida – 27
Notable Losses: DL Darrell Jackson Jr. – Florida State, DB Isaiah Dunson – Baylor, OL Jakai Clark – SMU, QB Jake Garcia – Missouri, DB Terry Roberts – Michigan State
The skinny: Head coach Mario Cristobal enters his second season, with a larger overhaul of players than from his first portal cycle. Considering this is only year two of a ten-year contract, look for Cristobal to be aggressive in order fine tune his roster on an annual basis through the portal as he tries to get the Canes back to their glory years.
Nebraska – 27

The skinny: While 27 is a hefty number, considering the Cornhuskers brought in a new head coach, Matt Rhule, and that only a few of the exiting players will truly be missed, this looks more like a needed cleansing instead of a gutting.
