In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Cam Ward is the savior for Miami.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
Let’s slow the roll a bit. I know Miami fans are excited that Ward decided to forgo the NFL Draft and play for the Hurricanes but portal QBs in year one are iffy. The better ones, like Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix Jr., and Bo Nix spent a year or so in a system before flourishing so assuming Ward can come right in and fix the QB and offensive woes is a reach. He’s a very good QB and will be better than anyone Mario Cristobal has had in Coral Gables, but turns the ball over a bit and I think Miami needs a lot more than just average QB play. He’d need to be special.

2. Texas was the best fit for Isaiah Bond.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Quinn Ewers is back, Texas loses some at wide receiver and Bond began to emerge as the go-to guy at Alabama so the timing makes sense. I’m not sure what the “business decision” is and all that but with a new coaching staff, Bond decided to head to the team that beat Alabama and it makes some sense. Kalen DeBoer is a great offensive mind and produced some amazing WRs at Washington but the unknown is still there while Texas is a sure thing.

3. Taulia Tagovailoa would be a nice fit at Michigan.
Farrell’s take: FACT
If he gets another year of eligibility, Tagovailoa would be a nice fit. Maryland had a pretty balanced offense and the things he’d be asked to do in Ann Arbor aren’t out of his skill set. And with JJ McCarthy gone, there is a big need at QB. I’m not saying there is interest on either side but an experienced QB from the Big Ten wouldn’t be a bad fit.
