In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Dorian Singer can bounce back at Utah.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Remember how good Singer was at Arizona? In 2022 he had 66 catches for 1,105 yards and was expected to at least come close to those numbers with a better QB at USC with Caleb Williams. He regressed to 24 catches for 289 yards last season and is now off to Utah for his third stop. And while you think he can bounce back, the Utah offense is not pass-friendly. DeVaugh Vele was the only WR to top 300 yards in the Utah offense, and even with Cam Rising back healthy, I think Singer stays around the same with his numbers. Sometimes you should stay where you are, and Arizona looked good last season.

Sep 24, 2022; Berkeley, California, USA; Arizona Wildcats wide receiver Dorian Singer (5) catches a pass against California Golden Bears cornerback Lu-Magia Hearns III (15) during the fourth quarter at FTX Field at California Memorial Stadium.

2. CJ Daniels is a steal for LSU.

Farrell’s take: FACT

You might not have heard of Daniels, but he had 55 catches for over 1,000 yards last year and 10 scores for Liberty, and now he heads to pass happy LSU, who should be in more shootouts next season. While we’ve learned that prolific WRs often don’t match their stats when they transfer, he’s going to be a key cog for this offense that loses some serious WR talent.

Dec 1, 2023; Lynchburg, VA, USA; Liberty Flames wide receiver CJ Daniels (4) catches a pass against the New Mexico State Aggies during the first quarter at Williams Stadium.

3. Ole Miss still stands on top of portal rankings.

Farrell’s take: FACT

A&M and Florida State have added some key players, and Ole Miss did lose RB Quinshon Judkins, but honestly not even close, and no one will catch Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin this cycle. They have such a large lead that it’s a race to No. 2, and they will be active in the second portal window as well.

Dec 30, 2023; Atlanta, GA, USA; Mississippi Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin celebrates after a touchdown against the Penn State Nittany Lions in the second half at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
