In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Grayson McCall will land at Auburn.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Hugh Freeze was at Liberty and McCall was at Coastal Carolina so the Group of Five connection is there (yes I know Liberty Independent) and Freeze loved McCall’s game and his smarts. Auburn needs a quarterback and McCall could be the guy who bridges Freeze to a team with his own players. It’s a natural fit.

Sep 3, 2022; Conway, South Carolina, USA; Coastal Carolina Chanticleers quarterback Grayson McCall (10) looks to pass against the Army Black Knights during the second half at Brooks Stadium.

2. Jaheim Bell is the best portal commit so far.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

It’s close but not quite. LB Dasan McCullough from Indiana has a ton of upside even though he’s less proven than Bell and he can make a major impact at Oklahoma. Bell will be utilized well in Mike Norvell’s system for sure as he’s multi-faceted but he’s No. 2 on my board right now.

Nov 19, 2022; Columbia, South Carolina, USA; South Carolina Gamecocks tight end Jaheim Bell (0) stiff-arms Tennessee Volunteers defensive back Tamarion McDonald (12) in the second half at Williams-Brice Stadium.

3. SMU is hitting an early home run in portal.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Rhett Lashlee and his Miami connections are off to a great start in the portal. Four Miami players — running back Jaylan Knighton, wide receiver Key’Shawn Smith, as well as defensive linemen Jordan Miller and Elijah Roberts — committed to SMU but let’s not forget other additions like DB Charles Woods from West Virginia, Stanford DB Jonathan McGill and massive Missouri OL Hyrin White. SMU is the hottest team in the portal right now.

Oct 22, 2022; Miami Gardens, Florida, USA; Miami Hurricanes running back Jaylan Knighton (4) runs with the football during the first quarter against the Duke Blue Devils at Hard Rock Stadium.
