Portal Fact or Fiction: Walker Howard, AD Mitchell to Texas, Gary Bryant to UCLA

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction — Portal Edition, he determines if Walker Howard will start immediately…

In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. QB Walker Howard will start right away at Ole Miss.

Farrell’s take: FACT

I know Spencer Sanders is committed as well but Howard didn’t transfer to sit. Jayden Daniels is the starter at LSU next season and Garett Nussmeier is competition but he could have stayed. Instead he’s headed to Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin where Jaxson Dart was not so good last year. Howard is a better passer with more upside and I think he’s going to there to start right away.

Sep 10, 2022; Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA; LSU Tigers quarterback Walker Howard (14) runs the ball against the Southern Jaguars during the second half at Tiger Stadium.

2. AD Mitchell lands at Texas.

Farrell’s take: FACT

To my knowledge the Georgia WR hasn’t entered the portal yet, but if he does, as rumored, I’d be surprised if he didn’t end up at Texas. He’s from Missouri City in Texas, they have NIL options for him, and, after losing out on Jordan Addison last year, they will throw everything at him. Mitchell is not Addison based on production but he’s an elite talent when healthy and I hear Texas and Colorado rumored for him early and the Longhorns will win.

Georgia wide receiver AD Mitchell brings down a touchdown catch while being defended by Alabama’s Khyree Jackson on Monday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

3. Gary Bryant joins Kyle Ford at UCLA.

Farrell’s take: FACT

The WR room at USC became overcrowded quickly when Lincoln Riley took over and both Bryant and Ford were nudged out of targets. So what’s the best revenge tour location? How about UCLA where Ford is headed. Bryant has always had elite skills and Chip Kelly wouldn’t mind adding a USC throw away and showing what he can do with him.

Sep 10, 2022; Stanford, California, USA; USC Trojans wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr. (1) catches the ball during warm ups before the start of the first quarter against the Stanford Cardinal at Stanford Stadium.
