New head coach Bill Belichick continues to tinker with his first collegiate roster. This continued last night with the commitment of grad transfer defensive lineman Smith Vilbert from Penn State:

Vilbert was mostly a depth piece at Penn State, with his most productive season coming in 2024 with 12 tackles, four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. At 6-foot-6 and 282-pounds, he adds a veteran with size to a Tar Heels defensive line that is still evolving.
Vilbert was a Class of 2019 high school recruit who played at St. Joseph’s (Montvale) in New Jersey, he signed with Penn State over offers from Baylor, Boston College, Florida, Syracuse, UCF, Virginia, Florida State, Maryland, Miami (FL), Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon, Pittsburgh and Rutgers.
Look for the North Carolina roster to continue to change, especially with the spring portal window opening in a few weeks.
