QB Casey Thompson (Nebraska to FAU)
The skinny: Having passed for 4,520 yards and 41 touchdowns over his last two seasons at Texas and then Nebraska, Thompson will play his final collegiate season in Palm Beach County. In Boca Raton, he gets reunited with new Owls’ head coach Tom Herman, who he played for at Texas. Expected to be given full reigns of the offense at Florida Atlantic, will he be able to flourish while playing his final season in a Group of Five conference?
WR Jordan Hudson (TCU to SMU)
The skinny: SMU has been one of the busiest teams in the country during this portal cycle. They continued their frenzy with the addition of one of the top available wide receivers. Hudson, who had 14 receptions for 174 yards and three touchdowns last season, was immediately linked with SMU since he was committed to the Mustangs in high school before flipping to TCU. This time they got their man, and he should become a huge part of an offense that has added several other intriguing parts in what should be one of the strongest units in the ACC this fall.

DB Jalil Tucker (Oregon to San Diego State)
The skinny: Tucker, a four-star recruit from the San Diego area, only spent one season at Oregon before entering the transfer portal. Upon becoming available, the Aztecs became an immediate possibility due to the school’s proximity to his home. Eventually the possibility became reality as he committed to San Diego State. While he was recruited as and played cornerback at Oregon, expect him to play wide receiver for the Aztecs, which should also give him the better opportunity to make an immediate impact this fall.
QB T.J. Finley (Auburn to Texas State)
The skinny: While Finley did not reach the potential many expected from him at both LSU and Auburn, this move to Texas State could provide the jumpstart his collegiate career needs. This is mostly true because of the offense new head coach G.J. Kinne is bringing from Incarnate Word. Last season with the Cardinals, quarterback Lindsey Scott, who ironically also started his collegiate career at LSU, passed for 4,686 yards and an FCS single season record 60 touchdown passes. However, the starting job is not guaranteed for Finley as he will be competing with a winter portal transfer addition, Malik Hornsby of Arkansas. Either way, a former SEC quarterback should be in line for a big season this fall.

QB Logan Smothers (Nebraska to Jacksonville State)
The skinny: After entering the transfer portal, there were rumors that Smothers might decide to return to Nebraska, however, he eventually decided to play closer to home and committed to Jacksonville State. This is a big addition for the Gamecocks, who are making the move up to the FBS level from the FCS for the 2023 season.
