A recent addition to the transfer portal is Texas offensive lineman Tyler Johnson. Johnson is a 6’6 325 Pound Sophomore offensive lineman out of Conroe, Texas. Out of high school he was a highly recruited 4-star prospect holding offers from schools such as Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, TCU, and others. During his high school recruitment he visited the campuses of Texas, TCU, Michigan, Notre Dame and Oklahoma. Johnson appeared in the Alamo Bowl for Texas in 2020, This is his only game action to date. At the collegiate level he looks to be playing tackle.
What are potential destinations for Johnson?
Since entering his name into the portal on March 31st, Johnson has received offers from in-state school Houston and Georgia Tech. Houston makes sense as an in-state program less than an hour drive from his hometown of Conroe and Houston assistant coach Corby Meekins was involved in recruiting Johnson to Texas. Georgia Tech can offer a chance at immediate playing and the offensive staff is familiar with Johnson as offensive line coach Brent Key recruited him while he was at Alabama. One school I’d keep an eye on is UCF as former Texas offensive line coach Herb Hand holds the same position now at UCF. Hand was the primary recruiter for Texas during Johnson’s high school recruitment.
