While the recruiting process of a kicker or punter usually doesn’t get too much attention, once the games start in the fall their importance is magnified. This is why every college football program that is uncertain about their kicking situation perked up this morning with the news that an extremely efficient graduate transfer had entered the portal.
Texas State standout kicker Mason Shipley has entered the transfer portal, @chris_hummer and I have learned for @cbssports/@247Sports.
Shipley, a 2023 first-team All-Sun Belt selection, is 31 of 35 on field goals in his career. https://t.co/10Sz3YwNKg pic.twitter.com/5EF8Wlmmrw

Over the last two seasons, Mason Shipley has been one of the more productive kickers in the country. During this time, he has converted 111 of 114 extra points and an extremely impressive 30 of 34 filed goal attempts. He also showed his leg strength with a long of 60 yards during the 2024 season. While he did not handle kickoffs in 2024, he has done so 72 times during his time with Texas State.
Shipley comes from a family of kickers, with his older brother, Michael Shipley, having played at West Texas A&M, while his twin, Matthew Shipley, just finished his last season of college football at Arkansas.
While his upcoming commitment likely won’t get too much fanfare, it should as it will greatly strengthen his next program’s special teams unit.
