Transfers from LSU and Michigan are already impressing

As summer camps have started across the country, here are five transfers off to quick starts, including one each from the Wolverines and Tigers

OL LaDarius Henderson – Michigan (Arizona State)

The skinny: This one is less surprising, but everything that Henderson has done since arriving on campus has impressed those in Ann Arbor. And now after seeing him in practice, the likelihood that he will be the opening game starter at left tackle is even more certain. Fellow-transfer offensive lineman Myles Hinton is also making an early impact, but considering Henderson’s importance on the line, his early performance solidifies what is a rebuilt but potentially dominant group.

CB Zy Alexander – LSU (Southeastern Louisiana)

The skinny: If someone was asked to guess which defensive back addition was making the most noise during the first week, most would assume it was Denver Harris (Texas A&M) or Duce Chestnut (Syracuse). However, it is Alexander, the FCS transfer, is the one who has made the most notable impact through the first few practices. A three-year starter with the Lions, Alexander has found himself lining up against star wide receiver, Malik Nabers, most of the time and more than holding his own.

WR Alante Brown – Michigan State (Nebraska)

The skinny: After accumulating 22 receptions in three seasons with the Huskers, expectations were rather tempered for Brown at Michigan State. However, those expectations have quickly grown after only a few days of summer camp. Athletic and fast, his performance has quickly turned heads in East Lansing, while he has also shown a veteran’s work ethic that has impressed his teammates and the coaching staff.

Michigan State wide receiver Alante Brown, right, takes a water break during the opening day of MSU’s football fall camp on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, in East Lansing.

DB Jadais Richard – Miami-Florida (Vanderbilt)

The skinny: Long, athletic and fast, Richard’s versatility has also stood out during the early portion of camp. Capable of playing cornerback or safety, look for him to play on the outside the season as the Canes look to replace two starters from last season. And with him already proving himself as a playmaker through the first week, the chances of him making a huge impact this fall are growing by the day.

WR Mycah Pittman – Utah (Florida State)

The skinny: While Pittman enjoyed his best collegiate season in 2022 at Florida State, he did not necessarily dominate with 32 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns. However, early reports out of Salt Lake City are that he has the potential for a much bigger season this fall. Playing the slot, he has shown impressive hands and route running ability, to go along with a quick burst. He is also likely to handle punt return duties for the Utes, as they will look to get the ball into his hands more often.
