Wide receiver Jordan Addison was one of the biggest names to enter the transfer portal during the 2021/2022 cycle. As expected many of the top programs in the country quickly began their pursuit, but it eventually came down to USC and Texas. He committed and signed with the Trojans, finishing his one season in Los Angeles with 59 receptions for 875 yards and eight touchdowns.
But what would have happened if he signed with Texas instead of USC?
Addison was one of the top wide receivers in the country last season, so no matter where he played he would have impressed statistically. However, it is impossible to ignore the fact that he played with the eventual Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Caleb Williams, during his one season with the Trojans. The two quickly established a connection which greatly helped Addison’s season.

At Texas, the quarterback position was a consistent source of discussion in 2022, with Quinn Ewers and Hudson Card both playing. Ewers, who started the majority of the games, experienced plenty of growing pains while also missing a few games with an injury. Despite the inconsistent play at quarterback, wide receiver Xavier Worthy still managed to have a successful season with 60 receptions for 760 yards and nine touchdowns. It is also worth noting that Ja’Tavion Sanders added 54 receptions for 613 yards and five touchdowns.
Adding Addison to this passing attack would have undoubtedly helped Texas, but with the inconsistent play at quarterback it is unlikely that he would have done enough to significantly change the outcome of the Longhorns’ 8-5 season.
