Who is Cordale Russell?

TCU has picked up a big-time commitment in 4-star WR Cordale Russell. Russell is listed at 6’2″, 200 lbs., and is from North Mesquite High school in Texas. Russell had over 20 offers from various programs but chose the Horned Frogs over the likes of UCF,  Arkansas. Baylor, Texas Tech, Florida State and others. He was named the District 11-A newcomer of the year.

How quickly can he contribute for TCU?

Cordale Russell is a bit of project as a player. Because he went to North Mesquite High School, there has not been as much development as you would like from the player. However he has the plus size and athletic ability you are looking for, but has a ways to go in terms of perfecting his craft and getting his skills to match the talent. Russell should expect to redshirt in 2022 and perhaps play some as a redshirt freshman getting his feet wet and perhaps use his size and athletic ability in the red area. He should be a major contributor for the Horned Frogs by 2024.

Player Comparison

He is a tall player with some speed on his side. From a size standpoint he fits into the mold of an Dez Bryant. The comparison is probably a bit too lofty, but is the style of player you could see out of a finished product of Cordale Russell. Russell has a big catch radius, and can run by people. You can utilize his skills on special teams as both a gunner, or a return man.

What it means for TCU

Sonny Dykes had built a solid relationship with Cordale Russell during his time at SMU.  Russell was once committed to the Mustangs. With the move over to TCU things seem to be continuing in the right direction for Dykes. Because he is building quite the reputation as a recruiter. WR coach Malcom Kelly is also shooting up the ranks as a WR coach, and that relationship played a pivotal role in making sure Russell ended up as a Horned Frog.
