5 Recruits LSU Needs to Land in 2024 to Keep Pace in the West

Who do the Tigers need to sign in order to stay on top of the country’s toughest division?

LSU had one of the biggest turnarounds in the country last season, winning the SEC West in Brian Kelly’s first year. Their momentum continued over to the offseason as they recruited well finishing with a top 10 class for the 2023 recruiting cycle. However, the Tigers will have to be even stronger in 2024 if they want to stay ahead of the pack as Bama won’t be going away anytime soon. That’s not the only thing, recruiting powerhouses Oklahoma and Texas are officially joining the fray in 2024 making life in the SEC tougher than it already was.

Here are 5 recruits LSU need to lock down if they want to continue to be playoff contenders in the future. 

1. Colin Simmons 

Edge

Duncanville, TX (Duncanville)

Every team game plans ways to get to the quarterback and having an elite pass rusher like Colin Simmons would make life a lot easier for any defensive coordinator. Simmons possesses an elite first step and speed off the edge that you just can’t teach. More than just a pass rusher, Simmons does a great job of not being overly aggressive against the run game as well. LSU ranked 8th in the SEC in sacks last season putting them in the bottom half of the conference, so getting a guy like Simmons would be a huge boost to that pass rush.

2. Trey’Dez Green

Tight End

Jackson, LA (East Feliciana)

LSU needs to do everything in its power to keep Trey’Dez Green within the state. Holding D-1 offers in both football and basketball, Green may just be the most fascinating prospect in this class. His size and athleticism give him the ability to line up anywhere on the field causing mismatches for the defense. Landing a unicorn like Trey’Dez would be huge for Brian Kelly and that LSU offense.

3. Jalyn Crawford 

Cornerback

When the term “DBU” gets thrown around, more times than not, the Tigers are mentioned in that conversation as they’ve produced a plethora of NFL defensive backs. They would have a good chance of continuing that trend with Jalyn Crawford. Crawford’s best ability is locating and making a play on the ball. He does a good job at making contact with the receiver at the point of delivery and plays through the hands to avoid any flags.

4. Tylen Singleton 

Safety/Linebacker

Many, LA (Many)

“Playmaker” is the word that comes to mind when watching Tylen Singleton, he just seems to know where the ball is going at all times. He has great awareness and can disrupt a play before it even happens. His ball-hawking instincts combined with a good nose for the football make Tylen the complete package. At 6’1, 200 lbs., he has the ability to play both safety and linebacker, giving him the positional versatility that defensive coordinators covet.

5. Zion Kearny

 Wide Receiver

Missouri City, TX (Hightower)

If LSU wants a guy that can take the top off the defense, they should look no further than Zion Kearny. With track in his background, it’s no wonder why Kearny can just zoom past defenders. However, Kearny is more than just a speedster. His ability to out-jump anyone on the field makes him the ultimate weapon. The Tigers have always seemed to have a playmaker at the WR spot and Kearney would be the perfect guy to continue that trend, especially with Malik Nabers likely headed to the draft after 2023.
