Most Important Signing: Lloyd Summerall
Edge, University of Florida (Transfer)
Good long frame, athletic edge rusher with valuable experience playing in the SEC. My favorite part of his game is the run support and ability to attack the OT/TE and set the edge against zone runs coming to his side. Shows good hand strength and range to disengage quickly from blockers, leading to tackles or clogging up running lanes. As a pass rusher, he shows solid upfield burst and finesse bend to beat OTs. Can definitely be more effective this year if he can improve his power rush and use of hands in pass rush plans on obvious passing downs. He rotated in the Florida defensive line unit last year, but he has potential to be an immediate impact starter and help improve this USF defense.

Best Overall: Jarvis Lee
Cornerback, IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL)
Really good signing for this USF defense, talented 3-star recruit who chose USF over top Sun Belt and ACC schools. Solid height and weight. Has experience playing field, boundary and nickel at IMG. Good athleticism and change of direction allow him to thrive in man coverage situations against all routes.Subtle aggressive use of hands and fluid hips help him stay in phase with receivers through their routes. Good hands and timing to attack the ball at catch points for interceptions and pass breakups. Due to his play style and frame, I like him to start in the nickel position within his first two years at USF. With more coaching, experience and good muscle added he’s got potential to be a very good starter by the time he’s a sophomore or junior.

Most Underrated: Stantavious Smith
DL, Dougherty High School (Albany, GA)
Can be a solid DT addition for USF playing as a 1 or 3 technique. My favorite part of his game is his acceleration/explosiveness off the ball. He gets in the backfield quick to disrupt plays before they develop. Shows good hand strength and mental processing in the run game, has the ability and knowledge to two-gap if asked to. Wins against the pass with his power bull rush, attacks with solid pad level. Shows good effort and change of direction for his size as he can run down screens and QBs to the edge and make tackles. I believe he will need coaching and more body development his freshman season, but he can be a good starter and a difference maker defending the run for this team by his second year.

Name to Watch: James Jenkins
IOL, Carrollwood Day High School (Tampa, FL)
Homegrown talent with good size and weight. Shows good hand strength and run blocking ability in both gap and zone run scenarios. Can definitely be utilized as a puller in space getting up to the second level or out to the perimeter. Has experience with combo blocks and working off double teams up to block the ILB. Displays good athleticism and mental processing in pass blocking sets. Has experience playing both OT/OG in high school. Will need to add muscle and get coached up on improving his anchor/base in pass sets against interior power rushers from the OG position. In my opinion, he has a chance to play valuable snaps this year and be a starter by his second season.
