Having a father who excelled on the football field during both his college and NFL career can be quite an inspiration. That is working for Class of 2027 linebacker Cooper Witten, son of Jason Witten, who has become an elite recruit with upwards of 20 offers. But the one he received last night is one of his most important to date.

Witten plays his high school football at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas, where his father is the head coach. Liberty Christian School is about 220 miles north of Austin, home of the Longhorns. This joins previous offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Auburn, LSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Oklahoma, USC, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tennessee and others. The Vols offer is also very important, as it was where his father enjoyed an All-SEC career.
You can expect Witten, 6-foot-1 and 205-pounds, to take a ride to Austin during the spring, to go along with previously scheduled visits to Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Clemson, SMU, Texas Tech and Texas A&M.
If Cooper even comes close to his father’s accomplishments on the football field, then his future school will be extremely happy. Jason Witten totaled 67 receptions for 786 yards and seven touchdowns during his final two seasons with the Vols. He then was a four-time All-Pro and 11 time Pro Bowler, mostly with the Dallas Cowboys, while totaling 1,228 receptions for 13,046 yards and 74 touchdowns during his NFL career.
