Five Recruits Tennessee Needs to Land in the 2024 Cycle

Recruiting is the main vessel to any winning program, especially in the SEC. That said, we are in the thick of recruiting season as prospects everywhere are taking visits, dwindling down their top school lists, and ultimately committing. Here in this article are some top recruits that I believe Tennessee needs to land to keep the momentum going in the program. 

 IOL Max Anderson, Reedy HS, Frisco, TX

  •  6’5, 305 lbs 
  • Four-star ranked 201st nationally 
  • Winning in the trenches is rule number one to be successful in college football. It all starts there and Max Anderson would help out a whole lot in that department. Hailing from the talent-rich state of Texas, he would be a major coop not only to the OL room but for recruiting in Texas period. He recently came off his OV this past weekend and it seemed to go well. While that may be true he has a brother at Oklahoma who happens to be his next OV. Watch out for Michigan also. It should be a great recruiting battle.

 WR Amari Jefferson, Baylor School, Chattanooga, TN 

  • 6’1, 195 lbs
  • Four-star ranked 269th nationally 
  • While at the moment he is a UT baseball commit, he is expected to play and put football first. Hailing from Chattanooga, Jefferson is as smooth as they come. Can play either inside at the slot or outside. Being an in-state prospect, this is a must-get. Recently he released a top six consisting of Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Miami, South Carolina, and Oklahoma. With JJ Harrell decommitting not too long ago, this would be a major get for the Vols keeping him home 

 WR Mike Matthews, Parkview HS, Lilburn, GA 

  • 6’1, 180 lbs 
  • Five-star ranked 10th nationally 
  • As one of the top WRs in the entire country, this is a no-brainer. Considering the offense Tennessee runs and with all of the talent that is left, this would be a huge get. While he plays both ways and could be very successful on either side, he will most likely end up at WR. The potential is through the roof. While Georgia and Clemson are hot on his heels, Tennessee will ultimately get the last shot with his OV on June 23rd.

 LB Edwin Spillman, Lipscomb Academy, Nashville, TN 

  • 6’1, 216 lbs
  • Four-star ranked 252nd nationally
  • While he may be a tad bit undersized at a little over six feet his game is certainly not. In fact, In today’s game with it being so spaced out, he’s actually the prototype. He is a missile that flies all over the field you will very well know when he arrives to hit you. He already has an older brother there (Nate Spillman) who signed in the 2023 class and Tennessee would love for his younger brother to join as well. He will have his OV this weekend starting June 16th. From all accounts, it is down to Tennessee along with Ohio State for his services. 

 ATH Boo Carter, Brainerd HS, Chattanooga, TN 

  • 5’10, 184 lbs 
  • Four-star ranked 206th nationally 
  • This very well may be the most important recruit to watch out for at the moment as not only is he an instate prospect, but he is set to commit this Saturday, June 17th. He plays both sides of the ball and excels at both. While that may be true most see him as a DB in the long run. For a while now it has pretty much been Tennessee and Michigan leading for his services with Tennessee having the slight edge. He recently just came off of his OV at Michigan which went very well, so this one could come down to the last second. Tennessee cannot afford to lose out on this top homegrown talent.
