Five Teams Due for a Turnaround in the 2024 Recruiting Cycle

Logan Jones goes in-depth on five schools that could be due for a big turnaround in the 2024 recruiting cycle

Matt Rhule replaced Scott Frost as Nebraska's coach ahead of the 2023 season.

This article covers the top five teams that could be due for a big recruiting turnaround in the 2024 recruiting class.

Florida State

It appears as if the Seminoles have finally hit their stride in year three under Mike Norvell. They reached 10 wins this season for the first time since 2016, and their recruiting is beginning to improve as a result. The Seminoles landed a top 20 class this year according to the 247 composite ranking. They’ve also amassed a fantastic transfer class as well, adding the likes of Jaheim Bell and Fentrell Cypress from the portal. I expect FSU to have a lot of influence in the state of Florida next cycle and potentially lock down a top-15 class.

Wisconsin

It’s no secret that Wisconsin struggled mightily this season, both on and off the field. Between the firing of Paul Chryst, the 7-6 finish, and a recruiting class ranked in the low 50s, there hasn’t been a whole lot to be excited about for Badger fans this past season. That all changed when Wisconsin announced the hiring of Luke Fickell. Fickell and Wisconsin are already beginning to make waves in the transfer portal. Expect the Badgers to be back in the mix for a top-25 class in the 2024 cycle.

Nebraska

Staying in the Big Ten, Nebraska has a chance to finally end its slump and return to its former glory under Matt Rhule. Regardless of their struggles in 2022, the Huskers have still managed to piece together a top-25 class for the 2023 cycle. In 2024, they could continue to build on that success. There is currently some buzz around Nebraska potentially landing the number one overall player in the 2024 class, QB Dylan Raiola. This would be a massive addition for them, and if they can pull it off, it would be a great kickstart for the rebuild in Lincoln.

Ole Miss

Ole Miss’s class in 2023 was lackluster at best. Finishing at number 36 overall (13th in the SEC), the Rebels didn’t have a great year on the recruiting trail. Still, they have a chance to have a bit of a rebound in the 2024 cycle. They already have two four-star commits, one of those being a QB. They have an early foundation to build on, so it’ll be interesting to see if Lane Kiffin can capitalize on it.

Colorado

It’s no secret that Colorado has been awful recently. However, with the hiring of Coach Deion Sanders, they’re already beginning to right the ship, at least in the recruiting aspect. Even though Sanders has only been at Colorado for a month, the Buffs are already making large strides in the recruiting game. They currently have the number 44 class, and a chance to flip consensus five-star recruit Cormani McClain. I fully expect Colorado to have a top 25 class in 2024, and I expect them to be in the mix for a top 15 class.
