With the high school football season starting to end, recruiting is picking up as we get closer to Early Signing Day next month. The Class of 2024 is in full swing as we approach the new year, and Mike Farrell Sports is looking to find the hidden gems.

2024 DB Idriz Ahmetovic, born in Bosnia and then moved to the states as a young kid, has played football for 8 years and plays at New Oxford High School in New Oxford, PA. He concluded his junior season putting up some impressive numbers on the stat sheet. He finished the season being name 1st team all-league DB having 29 total tackles (17 solos), one forced fumble, and seven interceptions, which were the most in one season in school history and tied a career record for interceptions and was 9th in the state.

Strengths

Idriz shows lots of skill in playing the defensive back position and he spoke with Mike Farrell Sports breaking down what he prides himself in his game and why he feels that way:

“I pride myself in being capable of adapting for my team in every situation that is presented to me. My coaches expect me to make plays while playing multiple different positions. Whether that means being a great guy in coverage, a ball hawk, a big hitter, or an overall athlete, I step up when I’m needed to, and that’s something I am proud of.”

He does just that. Watching his film, it seems like he is always on the ball making a play in every way for his team whether it’s laying the boom or creating more opportunities for his offense to put up more points.

Looking to Improve

Being a defensive back in football is not easy, especially having to adjust and play other positions when your team needs you to, so Idriz mentioned some things he wanted to work on heading into the offseason.

“Technique. I’m a firm believer in mastering technique. I feel as though in high school, most of us rely more on athleticism rather than technique. If I were to improve my technique to go along with my athleticism, I would have a greater advantage competing at the high school level and, furthermore the college level.”

Some of the best defensive backs we watch today and in the past have possessed the ability to have technique and athleticism and by doing so that could set him up for a bright future and have the opportunity to play at the next level.

Difference Maker

With lots of players looking to get recruited and play at the next level, some players have that particular trait to separate themselves from the rest group, and Idriz talks about what makes him different.

“I’m coachable. Whenever I do something wrong on the field, I’m not afraid to go up to a coach and talk with them about what I can do better the next play. I also want to be the best on the field doesn’t matter if I’m not the biggest guy. I’ll give all my effort on every play.”

Being coachable is the most attribute an athlete can possess and nowadays you don’t see that too often in players. We see the most successful teams be able to take adversities and criticism and use it as a learning tool for growth and that is something he would make a difference in a program.

What to Notice

Coaches watch lots of films of players and they look for specific things Idriz talks about what he wants coaches to see in him.

“When coaches watch my film, I want them to see a guy who is great in coverage, and a guy who can get dirty and shed the block and make a tackle. Whenever I see the ball, I’m gonna go up and make the play. In terms of an athlete, I also played a variety of positions on the field like a wide receiver, running back, and quarterback.”

His being an athlete that can play multiple positions on both sides of the ball at a high level is something we do not see that often. His recruitment is wide open, and his film shows that he can play at the next level. With the solid numbers on the stat sheet and in the classroom, he is on the verge of receiving interest from programs very soon.
