Names in the News

–4- 2024 ATH Jacob Oden, Harper Woods High School, Harper Woods, Michigan.

Jacob Oden will be at the Big House this Saturday when the Michigan Wolverines play the Michigan State Spartans. He is listed as an athlete but has played cornerback and has the size to play safety, possibly or at a hybrid position. Oden was at Beaver Stadium for Penn State’s White Out game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers last weekend and has also visited the Tennessee Volunteers. He was at Neyland Stadium when they beat Alabama, and his family has a great relationship with Vols defensive coordinator Tim Banks. With that in mind, however, the 247 Sports Crystal Ball has the Spartans in the lead, and he visited East Lansing in September when they hosted the Gophers. So this is a two-team race between the Spartans and Wolverines, with Sparty in the lead.

Despite the loss, Harper Woods (Mich.) 2024 four-star ATH Jacob Oden (@JacobOden4) made several impressive plays on both sides of the ball tonight.

–4-star DE Johnny Bowens, Judson High School, Converse, Texas

Johnny Bowens, the No. 36 defensive line prospect in the 2023 class, will have an official visit to Texas A&M when the Aggies host the Florida Gators on November 5th. He was previously an Aggie commit but de-committed over the summer. Besides the Aggies, he has also visited the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oregon Ducks. The Texas Longhorns are trying to get him to Austin for a visit sometime next month, but this looks like a race between the Ducks and Aggies. The Ducks are one reason he decided to pull his commitment from Texas A&M, and they have been pursuing him since. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Aggies with an 87.2% chance of getting him followed by the Ducks at 12.5%. However, I believe he will choose the Ducks and head to Eugene. I say that due to the ongoing issues at College Station and the struggles there this season.

Johnny Bowens, ladies and gentlemen!

Looks good in No. 9

How about Judson leading DeSoto right now 35-14 in the first half?!@D1Bowens pic.twitter.com/I0NGaBvz4T

–4-star 2024 ATH Nate Frazier, Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana, California.

Nate Frazier can play multiple positions but has flourished at running back. He has had a great season and, with that, moved up in the rankings to a four-star. Frazier visited the Washington Huskies when they played the Arizona Wildcats on October 15th. He talked about the family-oriented environment and loved the coaching staff. Despite this, he also visited the Oregon Ducks as he was there last weekend for their showdown with the UCLA Bruins. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Oregon Ducks as the leaders for him. It looks like it will be between the Ducks and Huskies, and I give the Ducks the upper hand right now.

–4-star ATH Jelani McDonald, Waco Connally High School, Waco, Texas.

Jelani McDonald, the highest-rated recruit in the Oklahoma State Cowboy’s 2023 class, decommitted from them on Tuesday. However, he says that they are still his number one school, and he has offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, SMU, Texas Tech, and Texas. McDonald was in Austin a couple of weeks ago when the Longhorns beat the Iowa State Cyclones. He said the visit went “extremely well” and loved spending time with the coaching staff, including head coach Steve Sarkisian. McDonald seems to still lean toward the Cowboys despite reopening his recruitment. However, I believe the Longhorns will get him if he makes an official visit to Austin.

Cadets won’t go away.. this Jelani McDonald one tough cat! @jelani_mcd24
