This is the time of year when the commitments of many of the top high school recruits from across the country start to roll in. Running back Kory Amachree will be joining this list when he makes decision on Friday between six schools.

Amachree, who plays his high school football at Haslett in Michigan, will be choosing amongst Duke, Harvard, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan State and Pittsburgh. This creates an interesting storyline considering Haslett High School is 5.2 miles from Spartan Stadium, home of Michigan State.

Because of his proximity, Amachree is extremely familiar with the Spartans’ program. However, his commitment is trending in a different direction. He has already taken official visits to Kansas, Indiana and Pittsburgh, with one to Michigan State scheduled for June 1st. With his decision only a couple of days away, that visit may never happen.

And that is because Kansas did an amazing job during his official visit and in the weeks since. The coaching staff’s work was enough for Amachree to announce his decision before he even visited his local program.

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

If Kansas can seal the deal, it would be a bigtime addition for the Jayhawks. As a junior at Haslett High School, Amachree rushed for 560 yards and eight touchdowns, but was limited to only 74 carries due to a leg injury (fractured fibula and tibia) in October. At 6-foot-0 and 205-pounds, he has worked his way back to be ready to join the team at full strength as he prepares for his senior season.

As with any recruiting process in 2025, nothing is a sure thing because of the NIL component. At any point a school can swoop in with a bigger offer, so will Michigan State do that? If not, the Jayhawks look poised to add to what has already been an impressive group of commitments.
