Genetics can play a huge role in the success of a high school football recruit. This is especially true when the recruits’ genetics are from a former NFL player. That is the case with 2026 CB Lawrence Timmons, whose father, of the same name, was an All-Pro Super Bowl winning linebacker with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The younger Timmons has seen his recruiting process blow up in recent months, with a continuous flow of new offers arriving. It all started with a West Virginia offer back in October, and was followed with additional P4 offers from Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Indiana, Iowa State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Maryland and most recently, Virginia.

There are no favorites at this point, but three schools to keep an eye on are West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin. The Mountaineers were Timmons’ first offer and have developed a close relationship with the junior. Pittsburgh has the benefit of familiarity. Timmons plays his high school football at Pine-Richland, in the northern suburbs of the city, he has already taken multiple visits to campus and his father played most of his NFL career for the Steelers. However, it is Wisconsin which will get the next visit, as the family will be traveling to Madison in March for a junior day.

Nov 4, 2006; Tallahassee, FL, USA: Florida State Seminoles linebacker (83) Lawrence Timmons sacks Virginia Cavaliers quarterback (10) Jameel Sewell during the 1st quarter at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, FL.

Timmons’ time with the Steelers was memorable. A fan favorite, he finished his NFL career with 1,067 tackles, 35.5 sacks, 13 forced fumbles and 12 interceptions. He was an All-Pro in 2014, which is the same season that the Steelers won the Super Bowl. Also of note, Timmons played his college football at Florida State, where he had an All-American season in 2006. The Seminoles have yet to seriously enter the chase for Timmons’ son, but they should not be disregarded if they do decide to pursue.

Expect more offers to come in for Timmons in the coming weeks, which will lead to the important decision of official visits. It will be a hectic couple of months for the Timmons’ family.
