Some recruiting rumors I’m hearing.
— Might as well start with 5-star QB Dylan Raiola who is very much a Georgia lean I still hear despite family ties to Nebraska and a strong push from USC. Ryan Puglisi from my neck of the woods here in CT is already in this UGA class as they want to take two but that doesn’t matter to Raiola I’m told. In the day and age of the portal, it’s actually more important to some QBs who the quarterback a class ahead of them is rather than who they enter with.
While Nebraska has no one to compete with, I’m told Raiola wants to play for a national title and be developed for the NFL more than an easy path to playing time. USC would be a good trajectory based on Lincoln Riley’s NFL development but Malachi Nelson will be established as the starter by the time Raiola arrives. Again, for a 5-star QB that doesn’t matter much as they all think they will win out, but UGA could be the best of both worlds. Who has UGA developed as an NFL talent? A good question. But the development of Stetson Bennett from walk-on to mid-rounder is something to brag about and he won two national titles. Anyhow, it’s UGA continuing to lead and Mike Bobo as OC isn’t a factor although he loved what Todd Monken did. A summer decision is likely.

— Michigan isn’t a lock for QB Jadyn Davis from North Carolina even though he’s been a lean to the Wolverines for over a year. While UNC has fallen back a bit with Phil Longo moving on to Wisconsin, Clemson is a quiet threat here. Dabo Swinney has targeted Davis and is as involved in this recruitment as any of the other head coaches and they have the geography advantage. I still like Michigan here but he hasn’t committed yet for a reason and I’m not sure what that reason is.

— Good luck to everyone trying to pull DE Eddrick Houston from UGA I’m told. This is similar to the recruitment of Samuel M’Pemba last year where the 2023 5-star was rumored to be a lock for the Dawgs but drew the process out. M’Pemba wasn’t looking for attention, he just wanted to be sure. And the same will happen for Houston. However, I expect him to commit to Georgia by the start of his senior season rather than wait until the end.

— Long Beach Cali WR Jason Robinson Jr. recently decommitted from USC despite the Trojans being his dream team. Why? That man Deion Sanders has him thinking a lot of joining the Colorado Buffaloes. This is the impact Deion can have. A local kid dreaming of playing for USC opens things up after visiting Colorado. I doubt he ends up back in this USC class as the Trojans are high on the list of so many national WRs and Notre Dame could be the leader here but keep an eye on Colorado.
