Mississippi State is currently putting together one of the worst seasons in recent history, with the Bulldogs’ second win coming on Saturday over a far less-talented UMass team.
From 2009 – 2017, Dan Mullen set the standard in Starkville with just two losing seasons in nearly a decade, and Mississippi State consistently finishing the year with an impressive win in a solid Bowl game.
In the ultra-competitive SEC, the Bulldogs have pulled off plenty of notable upsets over the years, but have struggled to put together a roster that can consistently compete with the top talent in the conference on a yearly basis.
Mike Leach had the program trending in the right direction, but tragically passed away during the 2022 campaign and DC Zach Arnett took over, leading the Bulldogs to a (9-4) finish.
Arnett was named the permanent head coach last season, but Mississippi State won just one SEC game and finished with a (5-7) overall record.
The MSU brass opted to fire Arnett after his first season as head coach and hired former Oklahoma OC Jeff Lebby. It’s safe to say Lebby will have a longer leash than Arnett as he inherited a tough situation. The Bulldogs lone win of the year came today, but he is making some headway on the recruiting trail, ranked ahead of Flordia and Vanderbilt when it comes to the 2025 recruiting class.

Mississippi State Commit Iverson McCoy Caught Decommitting During UMass game
On Saturday as the Bulldogs cruised to a dominating win over UMass to pick up their second victory of the year, a wild video emerged from Starkville.
Iverson McCoy — a 3-star Tupelo native who committed to play for Lebby back in June also has scholarship offers from Ole Miss and Kentucky.
But while the talented CB has seemed set on following through and coming to play in Starkville, he was captured decomitting in a viral video from the stands at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday.
“I’m thankful for all the support from Mississippi State but I will (be) decommitting,” McCoy wrote and the video was captured by a random person who posted it on X and it began to go viral. The video looked like it was shot from someone sitting directly behind the Bulldogs’ commit during a campus visit.

McCoy took to social media shortly after saying he was just having fun trolling and made another post reiterating he still plans to come to Mississippi State.
It’s still HAIL STATE🐶

Either way, this felt like an odd move as a commit who hasn’t played a down for the Bulldogs yet was just having fun trolling fans? Kids are wild nowadays, so nothing should be surprising. Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up turning out to be something more.
