Now that the playoffs have started in high school ball all around the
country, teams are in search of a championship. With that comes
standout players and eventually post-season awards. The biggest one is Mr. Football. Semi-finalist have already
been named and here I select my future winners in the great state of Tennessee.

1. Class 6A

QB Kannon Burroughs, Green Hill

The junior signal-caller has done it all this season. Not only
has he thrown and ran for over 1,000 yards this season, he also led
his team to its first-ever undefeated regular season.

Green Hill's Kannon Burroughs (18) celebrates a touchdown against Mt. Juliet during their game at Green Hill High School in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024.

2. Class 5A

LB Brenden Anes, Page

The once Wisconsin commit, who just recently flipped to
Tennessee, has been a menace on the field this season. Teammate Eric Hazzard, who is headed to Louisville, will both be finalists in my eyes.

3. Class 4A

QB Bronzden Chaffin, Upperman

Standing tall at 6-4 with great athleticism, Bronzden
Chaffin
can do it all. He is one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks
in the entire state. He is the main reason why Upperman is a favorite to
win the 4A title.

CLASS 4A: Bronzden Chaffin, Upperman, Jr. - Here, Chaffin (8) heads to the end zone for a touchdown during the TSSAA BlueCross Bowl Division I-4A championship game at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Dec. 2, 2023.

4. Class 3A

QB Graham Simpson, Westview

If it weren’t for Simpson, I would have chosen Memphis
native Radarious Jackson to take it home once again, but the Westview QB was far
too superb this season. He has thrown for almost 3,000 yards along
with 43 touchdowns and an eye-popping zero interceptions.

5. Class 2A

QB Kason Young, East Robertson

With star running back Isaiah Groves going down early
with an injury, Young was asked to step up. He answered the call
with poise. He has thrown for 1,670 yards with 18 touchdown
passes while rushing for over 600 yards and six more scores.

6. Class 1A

QB Tate Surber, McKenzie

With the way Surber has played this season, this award
should be all but wrapped up. He has accounted for over 3,000 all
purpose yards and 51 touchdowns. He has led his team to title
favorites by far.

McKenzie's Tate Surber (14) surveys downfield for a receiver during the McKenzie vs Huntingdon TSSAA Football Season Opener in Huntingdon, Tenn., on Friday, August. 23, 2024.

7. DII-Class A

QB Jared Curtis, Nashville Christian

The once-Georgia commit is the best quarterback in his
class of 2026, and he shows why every Friday night. He has his team rolling,
and he does it both through the air as well as on the ground.

8. DII-Class AA

QB Kaedyn Marable, BGA

Kaedyn Marable has had a breakout season by every
measure. Only a junior, he has completed over 70% of his passes for
almost 2,500 yards and 26 touchdowns. On the ground, he has ran
for almost 400 yards along with 13 touchdowns. They are a team to
watch.

9. DII-Class AAA

DL Ethan Utley, Ensworth

Not only is he the best player on a loaded team, but he also
leads the state’s best defense. While only putting up solid numbers
on the stat sheet, his film shows he’s different. Utley is a disruptive force in the
trenches, and a main reason why they are title contenders.

Ensworth's Ethan Utley (17) gets in position against Father Ryan during the second half at Ensworth High School in Nashville, Tenn., Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.

10. Kicker of the Year

London Bironas, Brentwood Academy

The son of Titans legend Rob Bironas has carved out a
pretty good career for himself with his leg as well. The Stanford
commit is one of the best in the state.
