The Elite 11 competition is a yearly competition where the nation’s top 20 high school Quarterbacks compete to be named the Elite 11 MVP. Elite 11 started in 1999 and is set to begin its 24th finals on June 14th, with Quarterbacks like Julian Sayin, Dylan Raiola, and Jadyn Davis gunning for the MVP title. Before the finals start let’s look back on the last ten winners and rank them based on their MVP win, college stats, and NFL play.
5. Spencer Rattler (2018 MVP) (Oklahoma Commit)

Spencer Rattler became the 2018 winner of the Elite 11 MVP. Coming out of High School, Rattler ranked 9th in the nation and 1st at the Quarterback position. The 6-1 signal caller hailed from Phoenix, Arizona, and attended Pinnacle High School. During his Junior season, he tossed 45 touchdowns and over three thousand yards. Spencer also became the first Arizona QB to surpass 11,000 yards. These impressive feats helped Spencer become selected as an Elite 11 finalist. During his recruitment, Rattler garnered 14 offers from schools like Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Miami. Later on, Rattler committed to Oklahoma. Rattler played three seasons in Norman, where he eclipsed four thousand yards and 40 touchdowns. After a disappointing junior season, Rattker transferred to South Carolina, where he tossed eighteen touchdowns and over three thousand yards in his first season. Spencer has one year of eligibility remaining as he hopes to lead the Gamecocks to the playoffs. Rattler dominated the Elite 11 competition, but so did the other four QBs on this list, all of which had better college careers and are in the NFL.

The first of two Ohio State Quarterbacks, Fields took home the 2017 Elite 11 MVP. Coming out of High School, Justin ranked 2nd in the nation and 1st at the Quarterback position. The 6-3 signal caller hailed from Kennesaw, Georgia, and attended Harrison High School. During his recruitment, Fields garnered offers from 42 schools, with every big-name college wanting the Georgia signal caller. Fields committed to Penn State but later flipped to the instate Bulldogs to play for Kirby Smart. Fields appeared in twelve games during his freshman year, tossing four touchdowns and over 300 yards, along with being part of an impactful fake punt. After the year, he transferred to Ohio State, where he dominated, eclipsing 63 touchdowns and over five thousand yards in 22 games. The Fields-led Buckeyes made it to the 2020 National Championship, where they saw Devonta Smith and Alabama end their season. In the 2021 Draft, the Chicago Bears drafted him in the first round, where in two seasons, he has tossed 24 touchdowns and over four thousand yards. Fields dominated the Elite 11 competition and has had a solid career in the NFL, placing him fourth. Three MVPs remain.

3. Caleb Williams (2020) (Oklahoma Commit)

The most recent Heisman winner also won the 2020 MVP. Coming out of High School, Williams ranked 8th in the nation and 2nd at the Quarterback position. The 6-1 signal caller hailed from Washington, DC, and attended Gonzaga High School. During his recruitment, Caleb garnered 22 offers with schools like Alabama, Oklahoma, and Clemson, all targetting the Gonzaga signal caller. After lengthy recruitment, Caleb chose Oklahoma, where during his freshman season, he replaced Spencer Rattler and threw 21 touchdowns in 11 games. After one season in Norman, Caleb followed Head Coach Lincoln Riley to South Beach and transferred to USC. During his sophomore season, Williams exploded, tossing over forty touchdowns and over four thousand yards en route to winning the Heisman Trophy. Caleb will enter his junior season in 2023, where he is the favorite to repeat as Heisman winner and be drafted in the top three. Caleb won the Elite 11 MVP over Brock Vandagrift, Ty Thompson, Drake Maye, and JJ McCarthy, showing how elite his MVP win was. Caleb has a Heisman Trophy, which neither of the top two has, but the top two are both in NFL and had very successful college careers.

1. Tua Tagovailoa (2016) (Alabama Commit)

The 2016 Elite 11 MVP is first in our top ten list. Coming out of High School, White ranked 22nd in the nation and 1st at the Quarterback position. The 6-1 signal caller hailed from Honolulu, Hawaii, and attended St. Louis High School. During his junior season, Tua tossed over twenty touchdowns and around three thousand yards helping him to be named an Elite 11 finalist. During his recruitment, Tua garnered offers from 17 schools across the country, including teams like Alabama, Oregon, and Texas A&M. Tagovailoa ultimately chose Nick Saban and Alabama. Tua is widely known for entering the National Championship and leading a miraculous comeback against Georgia in his Freshman season. Tua was later named the starter for the Tide over Jalen Hurts. In three seasons with Alabama, Tagovailoa tossed over seven thousand yards and had 87 touchdowns. The Dolphins drafted him with their first-round pick in 2020. In his first three seasons in the NFL, Tua has started 36 games tossing over 50 touchdowns and over eight thousand yards. The 2016 rendition of the Elite 11 competition consisted of some high-profile QBs. The combination of his Elite 11 MVP, his college performance, and his performance in the NFL places him first.
