Over the last few years, the spring has become the most hectic high school recruiting time of the year. There are plenty of visits and because of that, plenty of commitments. At the same time there are schools trying to flip current commitments. That is the situation with cornerback Jaxson Gates, who is committed to Syracuse, but is now seriously considering Michigan State.

Gates, a 6-foot-1 and 170-pounder from California, committed to Syracuse in late November. At that time, the Orange were his only offer, but that is no longer the case. Since January, Gates added offers from San Diego State, Boise State, Oregon State, UNLV, Sacramento State and most recently, Michigan State.
The Spartans have made Gates a priority and he has reciprocated the interest. He announced a planned official visit to East Lansing in mid-February for the weekend of June 13th, but then also scheduled an unofficial visit to check out the Big Ten program, which is currently ongoing.
Gates’ only other official visit is scheduled to Syracuse for the weekend of June 6th, which will give the Orange an opportunity to solidify his commitment. But at this point it is more likely that his process will continue no matter what happens in the month of June.
