RECRUITING: Could Rival Delay Expected 2026 QB Commitment?

Michigan seems close to grabbing an important Class of 2026 QB commitment, but Ohio State may throw a wrench into those plans

After taking a recent visit to campus and picking up an offer, Class of 2026 quarterback Nathan Bernhard seemed to be on track to commit to Michigan. However, one specific school, Ohio State, may throw a wrench into those plans.

After a great visit to @UMichFootball yesterday, and a conversation with @ChipLindsey11 I’m blessed to have received an offer from the University of Michigan! pic.twitter.com/UOSba5Vgaj

While he is considered a three-star by most recruiting services, Bernhard has become a priority recruit for several programs, such as Penn State, Michigan State and Iowa State. He has also taken numerous visits to Ohio State, which is approximately 80 miles from his high school in Ashland.

The Buckeyes have long known about Bernhard’s abilities and potential but have yet to offer. However, the news of the Michigan offer and looming commitment to the Wolverines seems to have sparked more interest from Ohio State. If the Buckeyes do decide to offer, that decision would likely be made sooner than later.

Ironically, Bernhard, 6-foot-6 and 230-pounds, will be in Columbus this weekend for the regional Elite 11 Camp. Could the weekend conclude with him gaining an invitation to the Elite 11 Finals while also adding an offer from the Buckeyes?

The rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State is fierce, both on-the-field and occasionally off-the-field in the world of recruiting. Bernhard’s situation may add a new chapter to this.
