The receiver position in each recruiting cycle is one of the deeper position groups, and 2025 is no different. With some of the top names still uncommitted in the 2025 cycle, let’s have a peek at some intel from the recruiting trail:

Caleb Cunningham

Ackerman, MS (Choctaw County)

#12 NAT, #2 WR, #1 MS

Arguably the top receiver uncommitted in the class standing in at 6’3″, 190 pounds, Caleb Cunningham is a gifted athlete that can beat you in a multitude of ways. The Mississippi product also plays basketball and was named an all-area player of the year for Choctaw County.

Many had come to the foregone conclusion that Cunningham was going to stay close to home with Mississippi State or Ole Miss, but visits have recently been scheduled to Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama. Being in the backyard of Mississippi State and coach Jeff Lebby could be the top selling point in this recruitment for the Bulldogs. I ultimately believe he stays home, but I don’t think a decision is made any time soon.

Early Prediction: Mississippi State

Quincy Porter

Oradell, NJ (Bergen Catholic)

#49 NAT, #7 WR, #1 NJ

When you look at desirable traits for the receiver position, speed is always near the top of the list and Quincy Porter certainly has it. Porter racked up an astounding 53 receptions, 1,107 yards and 19 touchdowns his junior season and the highlights show a great deal of those numbers coming in the open field and with yards after the catch.

With a recent top-6 being released that included Ohio State, Texas A&M, Michigan, Penn State, Oklahoma and Alabama, Porter has visits scheduled to both Columbus and Ann Arbor in June. The Wolverines have recently been seen as the leader in the clubhouse for Porter’s commitment. It’s a position they’re relatively thin at, but I think this will be a battle all the way until early signing day.

Early Prediction: Michigan

Vernell Brown III

Orlando, FL (Jones)

#70 NAT, #10 WR, #10 FL

Vernell Brown is another player that excels after the catch and possesses great top-end speed. With a recently released top-4 schools consisting of Ohio State, Florida, Miami, and Florida State, this recruitment seems like it may have an end in sight after Brown takes scheduled visits to the aforementioned schools.

Throughout the spring it seemed that a strong relationship with Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline made the Buckeyes a strong player for both Brown and his 7 on 7 teammate Jaime Ffrench, but it seems as of recent that Brown is trending towards Miami. This will be a recruitment to pay attention to as Brown wraps up visits around June 21st (Florida State being the final visit), and if he is ready to make a decision.

Early Prediction: Miami

Daylan McCutcheon

Lucas, TX (Lovejoy)

#92 NAT, #12 WR, #16 TX

At 6’0″, 170-pound, Daylan McCutcheon is arguably one of the top wide receivers in the competitive state of Texas, and it seems he’s getting closer to a decision with scheduled visits heading into the summer. Although McCutcheon released a Top 8, the current schools that stand out with scheduled visits are SMU, Ohio State, Texas, USC, and Florida State.

McCutcheon posted an impressive junior season with 1,430 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns (two being kickoff returns) on an impressive 94 receptions. I think how the dynamic athlete is used on offense could play a pretty big factor in this recruitment, making USC stand out. How the Trojans currently use Zachariah Branch being a great example of what kind of spark a player like McCutcheon could bring.

Early Prediction: USC
