Still eight months from early signing say, April is shaping up to be a busy month for commitments with some talented players already coming off the board. Let’s take a look at some of the most impactful commitments from early April on the recruiting trail:
Cutter Woods (Wake Forest)
Anderson, SC (Westside)
#703 NAT, #41 QB, #12 SC
One of the more underrated quarterbacks in the cycle, the 6’3″ 210-pound Woods committed to coach Dave Clawson and the Deacons over finalists Auburn, Indiana, and Virginia. Getting a future signal-caller who was voted high school player of the year in the state of South Carolina is a massive win on the trail for Wake Forest.

Matt Zollers (Missouri)
Royersford, PA (Spring-Ford)
#78 NAT, #8 QB, #2 PA
Landing the commitment of a high-ceiling player like Zollers against teams in his home state is incredible work by coach Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri staff. This recruitment ramped up early in 2024 and the 6’4″, 205-pound Pennsylvania product chose the Tigers over Georgia, Penn State, and Pittsburgh.

Landon Rink (Texas A&M)
Cypress, TX (Cy-Fair)
#288 NAT, #32 DL, #49 TX
Landing a Texas legacy is a pretty big deal for coach Mike Elko and the Aggies. Rink’s other finalists were Ohio State and Oklahoma before announcing his pledge to A&M. The Aggies are getting a hard-nosed defensive lineman who’s already 280 pounds before getting to campus, which could mean early playing time if he transitions well to the college game.

Carde Smith (Auburn)
Mobile, AL (Williamson)
#258 NAT, #27 OT, #15 AL
Landing a talented offensive tackle is a priority for any top recruiting class, and coach Hugh Freeze made keeping Carde Smith in the state of Alabama a priority. Smith chose the Tigers over Florida State and Mississippi State, but I wouldn’t expect new coach Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs to go out quietly. I see Auburn sweating this recruitment out until signing day, even though a commitment now is a good sign.
