Recruiting Round-Up 8/1-8/2/22 Bama on top

In today's edition of recruiting round-up, we discuss how Alabama's hot July got them onto the top of the college football recruiting world once again. Saban and the Tide picked up a Georgia legacy, flipped a kid from Ohio State, and brought in a five-star RB, and the top-rated player in the state of Georgia. Bama could seemingly do no wrong, and made several big power plays throughout the month that brought them from well outside the top 20 all the way to first! We typically see these kinds of moves from Saban in December, but the Tide staff wasted no time this year and hit the accelerator in the summer!

Four-Star DL Hunter Osborne commits to Alabama

Hunter Osborne is a 6'4 260-pound defensive lineman from Trussville, Alabama. Osborne is a big young man, but displays quite good athleticism, he has a quick first step off the line of scrimmage and shows a variety of pass rush moves that help him get to the QB. Quite strong at the point of attack and is impactful in the running game. Will need to grow into his frame better, but has good length and room to add muscle and weight to his frame. In order to play, he will likely need a redshirt at a minimum to be ready to start or play significant snaps.

Four-Star TE Ty Lockwood flips from Ohio State to Alabama

Lockwood is a 6'5 225 TE from Thompson's Station, Tennessee. He was originally committed to Ohio State but chose to flip his decision to the Crimson Tide. His commitment moved the Alabama class into the top spot in the 247sports composite. Ty is a more traditional TE, where he is more of a blocker than a pass catcher. However, he is also a versatile pass catcher. Lockwood should be a future NFL draft pick as he has adequate skills and talent. He will however need to wait a year as he will need to get his body correct.

Four-Star OT Stanton Ramil commits to Michigan State

Stanton Ramil is a 6'7 310 pound OT from Alabaster, Alabama. Mel Tucker's connection to the state of Alabama did him some good here! Stanton is a quality LT with an ideal size. He is not overly athletic or great at any single thing but is solid across the board. A lot of unlocked potential in this young man who has the ideal size for the position. High IQ young man who does a great job winning with leverage and technique.

Four-Star CB Maliki Crawford commits to USC

Maliki Crawford is a 6'3 CB 180 pounds from Oxnard, California. A big CB is ideal in Alex Grinch's Speed D philosophy which employs fast and long players to make plays on the defensive side. Crawford is a physical corner who does a good job redirecting WRs and has quality fast twitch abilities. He moves well in a phone booth, though he may need to work on his long speed before he is ready to play.

Four-Star DE Colton Vasek commits to Oklahoma

Colton Vasek is a 6'6 225 pound DE from Austin, Texas. His father Brian actually suited up for the Sooner's hated rival the Texas Longhorns in the early 90s. Vasek was the Defensive MVP in the 6A Texas State championship where he sacked OU QB commit Jackon Arnold, three times as Westlake defeated Denton Guyer, went 16-0, and finished #2 in the country according to Maxpreps. Colton is quick and crafty on the edge and uses great technique vs the run. He recorded 10 sacks in the regular season for Westlake in 2021 and was named Texas District 26 1st team.
