Recruiting Round-Up: Florida State Reeling

Recruiting Round-Up 7/12/22 Florida State Struggling

Today’s recruiting round-up discusses the Florida State program struggling on the trail under head coach Mike Norvell. I wrote a piece earlier in the summer talking about why I thought FSU was heading in the right direction and Norvell could be the guy. My confidence in that previous analysis is shaken. The last couple of weeks has been devastating on the trail. Three players have de-committed since June, and FSU was considered the leader for Five-star CB Desmond Ricks and did not even make his top 10.
I want to think I am exaggerating, but the players they lost to flips in the 2022 cycle would be enough to make them a top-class last year, including losing Travis Hunter to Jackson State. You have to love what Coach Sanders has done down there, but a program like FSU losing a player of that magnitude to an FCS school is embarrassing. That would not have happened to Bobby Bowden, and as critical as I am of Jimbo Fisher, it would not have occurred on his watch either.
Your class can fall apart after a QB de-commits, and after a solid Elite 11 performance, he is no longer rocking with Florida State.

Mike Norvell better come up with a solution yesterday.

On to the normally scheduled programming notable commitments:

Four-Star Linebacker Raul Aguirre Commits to Miami (FL)

The Canes and Mario Cristobal strike again with a super athletic linebacker from Fayetteville, Georgia. The 6’2 220-pound linebacker could be an early contributor for the Hurricanes. Raul has impressive traits that set him apart from others in the position. Aguirre is a sudden and violent mover who attacks the football. He has excellent read-react skills and can play coverage—quality leader, intelligent and high IQ young man. He takes care of his body, has low body fat %, and can add weight for more mass. Can play outside or inside at the next level. Immediate impact three-year kid, in my estimation. Excellent pick-up for Miami, who quite frankly is rolling right now.

Four-Star RB Kaleb Jackson Commits to LSU

Brian Kelly and the Tigers have been on a roll in July on the trail. Kaleb Jackson is listed at 5’10, 200 pounds, and is a lightning-type runner. He is a dual-sport athlete who is a track runner. Good top-end speed could be a good change of pace guy or a third-down back for LSU. I will need to add a little weight to help him pass the block and to run inside. He ran for over 2000 yards in high school last year, adding 29 rushing TDs. Showed versatility as a pass-catcher as well. He is a dangerous athlete who can be a threat for a house call whenever he has the ball. Kelly and co got another good one.

That’s all for tonight’s Recruiting Round-Up! Florida State is in desperate need of some good news if they want to reverse its recent trend. We’ll see you again tomorrow!
