Recruiting round-up 8/3-8/5

In this edition of recruiting round-up, we look at Notre Dame and Marcus Freeman and how they have been heating up on the recruiting trail yet again. The Irish are expecting even more good news later today. This while in the midst of juggling Keon Keeley, and Peyton Bowen who are both clearly on flip watch at this time.

Four-Star Edge Ashley Williams commits to Auburn

Auburn has started to get a few solid recruits in recent weeks, particularly for their 2024 class, but Ashley Williams a 6-foot 5-inch defensive end from Zachary, Louisiana is one heck of a snag for the Tigers. Zachary won state last year in 5A, and Williams played a strong role in that run accounting for 14 sacks on the year. Ashley played both inside and on the edge in this scheme, but projects to be a solid guy for Auburn on the edge. He will need to bulk up, so likely a redshirt year for the talented pass rusher.

Four-Star Linebacker Jaiden Ausberry commits to Notre Dame

Ausberry is a 6 foot 1 inch 210-pound linebacker from Baton Rouge, Louisiana (take that Brian Kelly am I right Irish fans?) Auberry is an LSU legacy whose father worked in the athletic department, and played linebacker for the Tigers, so this win sends a big message about how big the ND brand is, but also how incredible Freeman has been on the trail. On the field, this kid has everything you want, sideline-to-sideline speed, great instincts good play recognition. He will need to put on at least 15 pounds to contribute early but could do as he has room on his frame. See him as a three year guy, for the Irish who have done a good job in recent years at the linebacker spot.

Four-Star Safety Jordan Sanford commits to Texas Tech

Jordan Sanford is a 5-foot 11-inch safety from Arlington, Texas. This kid can absolutely play, and this is yet another example of why Joey McGuire has a chance to turn things around in Lubbock. The former Cedar Hill head coach has so much respect in that state he is able to help Tech recruit to a level like never before. Speed and coverage skills are what come to mind when you watch Sanford play, he has good instincts and ball skills as well. He also did track in high school and performed well. Sanford will likely be an early contributor but will need to get in the weight room.

Four-Star Edge Derion  Gullette commits to Texas

Texas strikes gold once again. The Longhorns have been tearing up the recruiting trail yet again. Derion Gullette is a freak athlete! He was first-team all-state as a WR, a tremendous track athlete throwing the shot put and he can punt a little too. On the hardwood, Gullette is also a big-time athlete and that is exactly the mold you want from your edge rushers in today's sport. You need guys who can, bend, and have quick feet and strong hands. Derion displays all of that and more from an athletic profile. The 6 for 2-inch 220-pounder could be an early contributor at Texas if he can get his body right from a weight standpoint. The film reminds me a lot of Clayton Smith who was a five-star last cycle and ended up at Oklahoma.
