Late winter and early spring can be an extremely busy time for high school recruits. As college seasons conclude, coaches can refocus on recruiting. Because of this, some players suddenly see a huge influx of new offers. This was the case for tight end Ty Goettsche, who despite a flood of new offers, pulled a surprise on Saturday with a commitment.

Goettsche didn’t receive his first offer until February 11th, when Utah State pulled the trigger. Since then it has become a steady stream of offers. Following the Aggies was Washington State, Colorado State, Texas Tech, Arizona, Tulane, San Diego State, Utah, Charlotte, Cal, UNLV, Michigan, TCU, Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn, Arkansas, BYU, Vanderbilt and most recently, Penn State. He had also scheduled official visits to BYU, Florida, Auburn and Texas Tech before making his commitment to the Cougars yesterday.
Listed at 6-foot-7 and 225-pounds, the Colorado-native is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which gave the Cougars an edge over every other competitor.
Playing at Cherry Creek High School, Goettsche finished his junior season with 13 receptions for 165 yards and four touchdowns. He is BYU’s fourth Class of 2026 commitment, joining QB Kaneal Sweetwyne, DE PJ Takitaki and DB Justice Brathwaite.
