Names in the News

–4-star RB Christopher Johnson, Dillard High School, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Christopher Johnson is the No. 326 overall, No. 19 running back, and the No. 61 player in Florida, and he will announce his decision on December 21, which is the first day of the Early Signing Period. The teams still in the running to land him are the Clemson Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Ole Miss Rebels, and the Penn State Nittany Lions. However, the Hurricanes are the big favorite to land him, as the On3 RPM gives them a 79.2% chance of landing him. Plus, he has taken three unofficial visits to Miami this season. Therefore, the Hurricanes are the team to beat here.

–5-star EDGE Samuel M’Pemba, IMG Academy, Bradenton, Florida.

Samuel M’Pemba will make his decision on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. ET. He is the No. 30 overall, No. 4 edge, and the No. 8 player in Florida. The teams still in the running for one of the top remaining uncommitted recruits in the 2023 class are the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Miami Hurricanes, and Tennessee Volunteers. However, Georgia has been the favorite for a while and has a commanding lead in the 247 Crystal Ball and On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. The defending national champion Bulldogs have the second-overall class trailing only the Alabama Crimson Tide. M’Pemba would be a great addition to an already strong class in Athens. He will be a Bulldog!

“I’ve had a lot of conversations with their coaches, mostly with Coach Mike Leach, Coach (Jeff) Phelps, and Coach (Rod) Gibson. Coach Leach said he would love to have me there and that it would be good if I stayed in the state to be a Bulldog.”

He is the 18th commit in the Bulldogs class, ranking No. 31 overall and tenth in the SEC.

–3-star LB Marcellius Pulliam, Sandy Creek High School, Tyrone, Georgia.

Marcellius Pulliam is the No. 792 overall, No. 63 linebacker, and the No. 78 player in Georgia, and he committed to the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday. He chose the Hurricanes over the Auburn Tigers, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Louisville Cardinals, and Mississippi State Bulldogs. Pulliam said that working with Miami defensive coordinator Charlie Strong and the program’s long history at the linebacker position were the reasons for committing. He said,

“They have a great history of putting linebackers in the league, and I want to be a part of something special. We talk a lot. He wants me to come to play the mike position and run the defense. Being able to have conversations with him like that and him being straightforward was big.”

He adds to a strong Hurricanes class that is No. 8 overall and first in the ACC.
