Scouting Jordan Ross, Malcolm Simmons, and Other Top Uncommitted 2024s
We’ll keep the scouting reports rolling on top prospects from across the country.
Jordan Ross - Edge
Birmingham, AL (Vestavia Hills High School)
Displays very good height with a wide chest and lean frame that still has room to add on to. Good arm length, weight, and muscle definition in his upper half. Solid lower half size with high calves and skinny ankles. Aligns as an Edge rusher in a 3-4 or DE in a 4-3 and plays out of both 2 pt and 3 pt stance. Good first step and initial quickness out of his 3 pt stance while also displaying good flexibility through the bend in his knees. Also shows solid explosiveness and play strength at POA followed by good use of hands when fighting through OL that are both run or pass blocking. When defenders get their hands on him he shows the ability to maintain the LOS and stall the OL's push. Shows very good acceleration when in pursuit of the ball carrier that allows him to get up to good top end speed. Plays with a high motor as he consistently chases down the ball carrier from across the field while displaying a good ability to finish tackles.
Shows adequate first step and initial quickness out of his 2 pt stance which is a result of having a higher pad level pre-snap, along with false stepping at the snap. Displays athleticism that few at his position have, while needing to refine technique in footwork and pad level which is coachable. He will need to continue to add weight and has the frame to do it, but still needs to show he can. Once he gets his body where it needs to be he can be a difference maker for his team.
Malcolm Simmons - ATH (WR)
Alexander City, AL (Benjamin Russell School)
Good height, wingspan, and hand size. Lean frame that he will be able to add weight on to. Shows good muscle definition in his upper half. Solid quad size and high calved. Aligns at RB and shows versatility with both his ability to run the ball and catch out of the backfield. Explosive when accelerating to his good top speed and even displays a second gear to get past defenders when they believe they have the angle on him. Straight line runner that show good body control and contact balance when creating yards after contact between the tackles. Able to track the deep ball and has good ability to adjust. Keeps good body control to secure the catch and reaccelerate to create yards after the catch. Loose hips shown in his ability to change direction and open up his stride when pulling away from defenders.

Runs with a high pad level which is a habit that can be fixed with some coaching. Shows a lot of traits that would translate well to the receiver position that can create position versatility for him. Concerned with how natural of a pass catcher he is based on him catching the ball with his body for the majority of the film. Route running will be something that needs some work which is not much of a concern due to it being something that coaching at the next level can fix early on. On the lighter side when it comes to his weight but does have the frame necessary to put on the weight needed. He is a good football player with traits that translate well to the next level and with some coaching can help him excel at multiple positions. His mix of size and athleticism allow the sky to be the limit for him. Type of player that through some development will be able to contribute to his team winning games.
Mario Craver - WR
Pinson, AL (Clay-Chalkville High School)
Slight frame with good arm length and solid muscle definition in his upper half. Displays good initial quickness and acceleration when getting into his route stem out of his release. Able to sink his hips and change direction when getting into his route break point. Shows good natural hands when catching the ball away from his body and good ability to adjust to catch passes below, in front of, behind, and above his frame. Very good body control when adjusting to throws outside his frame, when playing close to the sideline and when high pointing the deep ball. Shows good mental toughness in his ability to make contested catches and play full speed over the middle of the field through traffic and hold on to the ball. Good lateral agility and COD to elude defenders when creating YAC.
Will need to improve the details of his route running which will allow him to elevate his playmaking abilities to new heights. Will play inside WR at the next level and will see the field early in his collegiate career once he refines his route running and his body continues to develop. May need some time to develop into a contributing player and once he does will be able to contribute to his team winning games. Already seems to have his pick of the country based on the offers he has received and they are without a doubt deserving offers.
Damian Thompson - SAF
Florence, AL (Mars Hill High School)
Slight frame with solid arm length and shows slight muscle definition in his upper half. Solid acceleration into his route stem before getting to his solid top end speed. Utilizes good lateral agility to get to the edge of press defenders and then accelerate past them. Displays a good ability to track the deep ball and adjust to make a play on it. Solid hands shown in his ability to catch the ball that is within his framework. When creating YAC he is able to make defenders miss with his good lateral agility and contact balance.
Does not have suddenness/explosiveness off the ball or at route break point which allows defenders to stay in phase with him. Will double catch or not high point deep passes. Route running will need to improve to contribute in his ability to create separation. Size is a concern as well due to there not being much room to get bigger without getting taller first. Tape is fairly limited when trying to paint a full picture of him, but there are some things such as size and suddenness that cannot be coached into someone. Will need to get bigger and improve upon his technique to be the top guy in an offense.
