There are several players in the 2024 cycle that are just now beginning to receive the attention that they deserve. One such player is 2024 safety prospect Mykel Patterson-McDonald. He hasn’t received much attention until recently when he picked up offers from the likes of Oklahoma and Michigan State.

Patterson-McDonald also has offers from Tulsa and UNLV. He tells me that every offer is a “blessing,” and that they all mean a lot to him. Oklahoma and Tulsa have both put in a significant amount of effort so far in his recruitment, and he speaks highly of both schools. Of the schools that have offered Patterson-McDonald, Oklahoma is the only place that he has visited up to this point. He spoke highly about his time in Norman, telling me that it is the best visit that he has been on so far.
“It was a really good experience. They were all very welcoming. It’s the best visit I’ve been on… [What stood out to me was] all of the coaches welcoming me, showing me around, and introducing me to everyone.”
He also said that he enjoyed talking to the Sooner coaching staff about football, as well as his goals for the future.
He has a visit planned with Michigan State in the spring, so it’ll be interesting to see if the Spartans create some positive momentum there. He is beginning to receive more and more attention as the cycle progresses, receiving looks from schools like Army and SMU. It isn’t hard to see why, considering he tallied 100 tackles, as well as three interceptions and ten pass deflections in his junior season.

Mykel is very close with five-star defensive line prospect David Stone. “We grew up together, played little league together, and have been close ever since.” I doubt it would be the deciding factor, but wherever Stone ends up could very well influence where Mykel decides to go.
