This isn’t the first time something like this has happened and it won’t be the last, but it is never a good look. The latest to disrespect a school during a commitment announcement occurred last night when 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor made his decision public.

Taylor eventually committed to Nebraska, which was expected after his recent visit to Lincoln for the Huskers’ Spring Game, but along the way he threw his state school, Illinois, under the bus.
Taylor had taken upwards of 10 visits to Illinois during his recruiting process and established close relationships with the coaching staff along the way. So faking a commitment to the Illini, which ended with him throwing their hat across the room, was a bad decision.
To his credit, it didn’t take long for him to realize his mistake. Or it didn’t take long for people in his circle to tell him that he had made a mistake. Either way, he went on X and apologized for his actions.

An apology was a good decision, but it was too little too late for Illini fans. As mentioned, Nebraska was seen as the clear favorite heading into his decision so him leaving the state wasn’t a surprise, but it should have been done with more class.
However, we all know that something like this will happen again.
