Which Teams are Dominating Early Signing Day So Far?

If there’s a movie title to encapsulate the early signing day thus far it would be The Usual Suspects. Nearly 7 hours after signings started and we see familiar names near the top of the board. Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, and LSU have all had stellar mornings. Heck, even the two somewhat unfamiliar teams aren’t little fish by any means, Miami and Tennessee.

I will also say, by day’s end Oregon likely will be up with these teams but being on the West Coast gives you the morning disadvantage because signings all start at 7 a.m. local time, no matter your location. Note- I will only be discussing players who have already put ink to paper and signed. So high end guys like Cormani McClain (Miami) and Zachariah Branch (USC) who haven’t officially signed yet won’t be included.

Alabama

The Tide come in at #1 so far, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. National top 10 players S Caleb Downs and Edge Keon Keeley highlight the Nick Saban signees so far today, along with a late addition on the OL. Kadyn Proctor was a late defection from Iowa and the Des Moines native was a major coup for Alabama. He will bolster an OL that struggled mightily last year. RB’s Justice Haynes and Richard Young, DB’s Jahlil Hurley and Tony Mitchell, WR Jalen Hale, Edge Yhonzae Pierre, DL Jordan Renaud, QB Eli Holstein, and OL Wilkin Formby are other Top 100 prospects who have officially pledged to this deep and star laden class.

Southeast Polk lineman Kadyn Proctor (74) takes in the final seconds of the Class 5A playoff championships on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Georgia

The reigning national champs and favorites to repeat have not disappointed today. CB AJ Harris, S Joenel Aguero, and star Edge Samuel M’Pemba are the three standouts so far. LB’s Raylen Wilson, CJ Allen, and Troy Bowles (son of Todd), OT Monroe Freeling, WR Tyler Williams, and Edge Gabriel Harris round out the UGA Top 100 locks.

Ohio State

Buckeye fans will be happy with the signees they have brought in thus far today. Ryan Day has continued to attract top talent to Columbus and atop that list this today are WR’s Brandon Inniss, Carnell Tate, and Noah Rogers as well as OL Luke Montgomery. WR Coach Brian Hartline continues to stock up his meeting room with NFL potential. Other Top 100 signees for the Buckeyes are DL Jason Moore and CB Calvin Simpson-Hunt.

Miami

Mario Cristobal’s first full recruiting cycle with the Canes has gotten off to an amazing early signing day morning, save the previously mentioned McClain. OT Samuel Okunlola and Edge’s Rueben Bain and Jaden Wayne will provide help in the trenches, where Cristobal has emphasized progress every stop on his coaching journey. LB Malik Bryant and TE Riley Williams round out the Top 100 Miami guys. Finishing strong and getting the commits to stay the course and sign will be more critical for Miami than anyone else, considering what and who is still out there. That being said, the morning has gone well.

Texas

The Eyes of Texas were squarely focused on Arch Manning today and the nations #1 QB faxed in his offer early today giving the Longhorns arguably the nation’s most coveted player. LB Anthony Hill, RB Cedric Baxter, and WR Johntay Cook are highly ranked as well and have also signed with Sark and Co. DB’s Derek Williams and Malik Muhammad give the UT secondary a pair of Top 50 players. The remaining Top 100 Horns are WR Ryan Niblett and Edge Colton Vasek.

Tennessee

Josh Heupel and the Vols have hit several home runs today. Top 5 overall player QB Nicholaus Iamaleava looks to be the QB of the future and an elite prospect. DL Daevin Hobbs and Edge Chandavian Bradley are huge boosts for that unit as well. Edge Caleb Herring has also signed so far today.

LSU

Some have doubted whether Brian Kelly and his many personality incarnations could recruit in the SEC. These people were foolish. You don’t win more games than any coach ever at the most storied program in the country with average Joe’s, no matter how good of a coach you are. The Tigers have started well this early signing day morning. OT Zalance Heard and Edge Dashawn Womack lead the class so far. S Javien Toviano and WR Jalen Brown also give Kelly other Top 100 signees so far.
