Winners from Early Signing Day

James DeCarlo drops his list of high achievers from the early signing day, including the commitments of big names like Peyton Bowen, Matayo Uiagalelei, and more!

With yesterday being Early Signing Day, let’s take a look at which teams came out on top.

Oregon

The Ducks are the clear winners of the day, positioning themselves to finish with a Top-10 class. Following a last-second flip to UCLA before ESD from their top recruit Dante Moore, Oregon quickly replaced their quarterback slot in the class with four-star Austin Novosad, stealing him from Baylor. Though Novosad flipped the night before ESD, it hinted at what was to come.

Five-star EDGE prospect Matayo Uiagalelei started things off, serving as a big recruiting win as the California native has had longstanding ties with USC and Ohio State. Four-star CB and fellow Cali-native Daylen Austin followed suit, flipping from LSU. Though picking up these two would have already been viewed as a solid day, the Ducks successfully poached two big recruits from Notre Dame in five-star S Peyton Bowen and four-star RB Jayden Limar.

What makes the day so much more impressive is how a majority of these commitments were flipped from major programs and flips are seen as more difficult than an outright commitment.

*I would like to point out that Bowen has yet to sign his NLI meaning that Oklahoma and Notre Dame are still pushing for a change in commitment.

The Ducks also secured a commitment from one of the top ten players in the transfer portal, AJ Cornelius from Rhode Island.

Alabama

Yes, the Crimson Tide seem to earn their spot as a “winner” each year, but they absolutely killed it yesterday. Similar to Oregon with Novosad, Alabama got a sneak peek as to what was to come the day before as five-star OT Kadyn Proctor flipped from Iowa.

This momentum continued through the commitments of in-state prospects five-star DL James Smith and EDGE Qua Russaw. The two are teammates at Carver High School and have been seen as a pair throughout their recruitment, as they are extremely close and did not hide from the perception of being seen as a pair, essentially taking every visit together to various schools.

Auburn

Auburn joins rival Alabama on this list due to Hugh Freeze leading the charge to an incredible day for the Tigers. Auburn started off flipping four-star DL and top-100 prospect Keldric Faulk from Florida State, which is even more so impressive because FSU (12/17) hosted the defensive lineman just days after his visit to Auburn (12/12), which wasn’t enough to convince him to maintain his commitment. War Eagle managed to grab another major pickup, flipping four-star CB Kayin Lee from Ohio State.

These flips are accompanied by two solid JUCO signees DL Quintrail Jamison-Travis and OT Izavion Miller, who both committed two days ago.
