[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image source=”featured_image” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Who is Zane Flores?

Zane Flores is a 6’2 190 lbs QB from Gretna, Nebraska. Flores chose Oklahoma State over the likes of Missouri, Kansas State, and Washington. Notably absent is the offer from home state Nebraska. Gretna High won the 2021 Nebraska Class-A state championship under Flores’s quarterbacking with an overall record of 12-1. The championship was later vacated due to an investigation that a player lived outside the district. However, the result on the field cannot be erased. Zane is a good student who according to Maxpreps has a 3.96 GPA. Flores threw 26 TDs and ran for 9 more as a junior.

Depth Chart Outlook

Because 1st team All-Big 12 QB Spencer Sanders still has 2 years of eligibility left, Zane Flores will not likely have a chance to play immediately. Gunnar Gundy, the son of head coach Mike Gundy is currently a redshirt freshman and currently second on the depth chart third is 4-star Garret Rangel from the 2022 cycle. Flores in theory could win the battle going into the 2024 season but is more likely to have a better chance once one of the two freshmen finishes their career. Zane will likely redshirt in 2023.

What is the impact of this commitment?

With Zane Flores in the boat, Oklahoma State can now focus their recruiting efforts on other positions while still looking for a 2024 QB. While Zane may never be more than depth at Oklahoma State, his build and athletic profile would suggest Mike Gundy plans to go back to the Mason Rudolph/Clint Chelf style of QB. Meaning pocket passing, and deep shots down the field. Oklahoma State has been different offensively with Sanders at the helm, utilizing his athletic ability and a bigger focus on running the ball.
