Nick Saban lands a former 5-star defender; Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs get a much-needed quality receiver; Miami finds a versatile and experienced offensive lineman; LSU gets an insurance policy in the form of an experienced SEC quarterback; and Texas Tech secures a commitment from a leading receiver out of the conference formerly known as the PAC-12 in the transfer portal.
DL LT Overton
Alabama Crimson Tide (from Texas A&M)
6’5”, 265 lbs.
A former 5-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting cycle, LT Overton is the first transfer commit for Alabama. Overton registered just 17 tackles this season after racking up 31 tackles, three tackles for loss, and a sack as a true freshman in 2022.

In Overton, the Crimson Tide gets a quality defender who possesses great athleticism. He has a good change of direction and has the closing speed to chase down opposing ball carriers, and he uses leverage to his advantage.
Combine that kind of skill with coaching and further development from Nick Saban, and Alabama has a potential star in 2024.

WR London Humphreys
Georgia Bulldogs (from Vanderbilt)
6’3”, 186 lbs.
As the #2 wide receiver prospect in the transfer portal, London Humphreys averaged almost 20 yards per catch (22 catches, 439 yards, four TDs). Humphreys went for over 100 yards receiving in back-to-back weeks against Wake Forest and UNLV.

This is a huge pickup for the Bulldogs as Georgia potentially could lose up to four receivers on the current roster to the NFL Draft. Humphreys will have three years of college ball left to play.
C Zach Carpenter
Miami Hurricanes (from Indiana)
6’5”, 292 lbs.
As a four-year starter at Indiana, Zach Carpenter was consistent in his execution and angry in his disposition when it came to run blocking and pass protection. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Carpenter allowed just three sacks in over 800 snaps this season. Carpenter is a versatile player, having played three different positions along the offensive line.

He is strong and can knock defenders down, has experience against top competition, and is mean and nasty at the point of attack. For the Canes, the offensive line will be in much better shape in 2024 than previously thought with the addition of Carpenter.
QB AJ Swann
LSU Tigers (from Vanderbilt)
6’3”, 225 lbs.
AJ Swann is an insurance policy for presumed 2024 starter Garrett Nussmeier and has starting experience in the SEC. Swann started six games for the Commodores and will have two years of eligibility left. For his Vanderbilt career, Swann passed for 2731 yards, 22 TDs, and nine INTs.
However, Swann needs to improve his game. While he was 2nd in the SEC in pass attempts of 20 yards or more at 19%, he also had the worst completion percentage in the SEC. With that said, there is not a better place in college football for a quarterback to improve his game than at LSU. Swann will be coached by QB Coach Joe Sloan and OC Mike Denbroc, two of the best coaches in the country when it comes to the offensive side of the ball and will be surrounded by a ton of offensive talent at the skill positions.
WR Josh Kelly
Texas Tech Red Raiders (from Washington State)
6’1”, 192 lbs.
As the leading receiver for the Cougars, Josh Kelly hauled in 61 passes for 923 yards and eight touchdowns. Kelly recorded four games of over 100 yards receiving, including three in a row to finish the season.

Over that 3-game stretch, Kelly caught 23 passes for 366 yards and a score. His high game of the season was against Oregon State: eight catches, 159 yards, three TDs in a 38-35 win. Kelly fills a position of great need as Texas Tech is losing three of its top receivers.
