Before every season, people will come out with their predictions for the upcoming year that make a few people scratch their heads. Well, today we’re going to be looking at some more bold takes from the staff at Mike Farrell Sports. At the end of the season, we’ll come back and look at how we did with our takes. Here is part three.

It would have been a very bold take to say Tulane would go 12-2, win the AAC, and win the Cotton Bowl after going 2-10 the year prior.

Neither Texas or Oklahoma will win the Big 12

This one is from Alec Nederveld. He stated “On their way out of the conference, neither SEC-bound school will win the conference. To me, Texas is an “I’ll believe it when I see it” deal, and while Oklahoma improved, teams such as Kansas State and Texas Tech have more experience and are veteran lead. I can see one of those two snatching the conference title over the Longhorns and Sooners.”

Texas Tech is led by QB Tyler Shough. He is 8-0 when starting and finishing games for Texas Tech.

Penn State beats one of Michigan and Ohio State, but loses to a west team and misses the B1G Championship Game.

These last two predictions come from our @mfscollege social media team. They said “This happens because they have inexperienced starters at skill positions, such as Drew Allar at QB. He’ll be an awesome player, but there could be some growing pains early.”

Penn State will play at Illinois in week three, host Iowa week four, and travel to Northwestern in week five. The Illini and Hawkeyes are both physical teams who have had success against the Nittany Lions, both winning their 2021 matchup. Could this upset happen again? We’ll see.

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

Penn State QB Drew Allar will be the new starter in 2023. He was a five-star in the class of 2022.

Washington Wins the Pac 12

They explained by saying “Michael Penix Jr. with good health and an improved line is dangerous. Washington is going to have a deep WR room, which includes Rome Udenze, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Jalen McMillan who could all get drafted. Odunze is one of our WR picks to potentially rise up to an early day two, or even a day one pick. Their defense also took notable steps forward over the offseason. If they show improvements on D, it will be hard for anyone to hang with them.”

Michael Penix Jr. hopes to stay healthy and have a lot of personal and team success this season.
