In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Bryce Young and Will Anderson should play in the Sugar Bowl.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
I don’t like opt-outs. I miss the days of college players playing in important bowl games for their teams even without national title implications. But that all changed when Notre Dame LB Jaylon Smith blew out his knee in the Fiesta Bowl in 2016. Smith fell from a top-five pick to round two and didn’t get the guaranteed money he would have landed as such a high pick. Smith rehabbed and has had a solid NFL career, but he left millions on the table even as a guy who reached a second contract. Don’t get me wrong, Smith isn’t poor and will make $20 million in his NFL career, but he did it the hard way because of one game. These two top-five picks shouldn’t risk it.

2. Sonny Dykes deserves AP Coach of the Year.
Farrell’s take: FACT
I have no argument as the TCU head coach won and deserved this. Like everyone else on the planet you always try to think of who got robbed when an award is handed out. Here this is no debate. A first-year coach is 12-1 and in the playoff. Enough said.

3. Louisville is still the sleeping giant in the ACC.
Farrell’s take: FACT
I said this when Scott Satterfield was winning a few games this season and recruiting and NIL were off the charts and I’ll double down. Jeff Brohm is a better overall coach, he has NIL assurances from boosters and he should recruit well. UNC was long the sleeping giant in the ACC, but give me Louisville down the road.
