Same Old Story: Day, Kiffin Can’t Get It Done

Day and Kiffin fail to deliver again—same old story for these big-name coaches.

There’s always a few coaches in college football that fail to get it done on the big stage, over and over again. We saw two of the biggest examples of those types of coaches continue to fail this past Saturday.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day was “born on third base and thought he hit a triple,” according to Jim Harbaugh, and that still rings true. Ohio State once again failed to win a big game as they fell to Oregon on Saturday , 32-31. Although Ohio State still has good odds to win the Big Ten, the failure to get it done for the Buckeyes once again falls on Ryan Day.

Another team that came into Saturday with expectations and ended the day with disappointment was Ole Miss. Ole Miss came into the season as a top 10 team, and this was the best team head coach Lane Kiffin has had in his coaching career. To say they have fallen short of expectations would be an understatement, as the Rebels have lost 2 of their last 3 games. Ole Miss lost in overtime against LSU on Saturday, as Kiffin—like Day—once again failed to coach his team to victory in a big game.

Kiffin and Day are two of the biggest examples of coaches who fail to get it done on the biggest stage, regardless of the talent they coach. Some other coaches also fall into this category, like James Franklin, but Penn State’s escape against USC bought him enough time to not be included in this article.

If Ole Miss continues to disappoint, look out for Kiffin to potentially take the Florida job if they part ways with Billy Napier, as there have already been rumblings of Kiffin taking that job. On the other hand, Day still has time to prove his worth this season, but if Ohio State cannot find any postseason success, Day’s seat will only continue to grow incredibly hot.
