The best thing for college football? Deion Sanders. But some think he’s the worst thing as well. Here’s your dose of Daily Deion.

Disclaimer: I have always been a fan of Deion Sanders. Loved him as a player at FSU, in Atlanta and Dallas and even respected him as a 49er against my Cowboys.

Earlier this week I took a shot at Deion’s son Shedeur for flashing that watch of his at the Arizona State student section after a close win over an injury-riddled team that dropped to 1-5. But I was equally annoyed with his reference to Tom Brady when he talked about the Buffs' final drive to kick a field goal and win. He said this…

“They simply left too much time on the clock. You know what mode we went- we went Brady mode. That's legendary mode."

And while I stand on the latter I’m starting to see that Deion and his son are marketing geniuses and the watch flex is purposeful for the bottom line. Deion said this about what is being called “The Shedeur” when he flashes his watch.

“It's hilarious to me because he and I joke about it on a daily basis," Deion said. "We just got to get him a lucrative watch deal. He can't keep doing it for free. He can't keep doing it for nothing."

And now it’s clear. They are playing chess and I’m over here playing checkers. A huge NIL deal from a watch company will ensue and they will be laughing all the way to the bank while dummies like me are screaming at the TV screen. In my defense, I did the same when Baker Mayfield was crotch grabbing and Johnny Manziel was money-fingering but they couldn’t cash in with a jock strap company or a bank. In the new world of NIL maybe something that annoys old men like me is simply marketing genius.
